The Eternal City

Hello Hivers,
today I want to share a business trip I made in Rome, the capital of Italy and one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
I had already been in Rome when I was really young and for this reason I didn't have many memories.
I have been living in Italy for the last 25 years and I have been in Rome only once... yes I know, shame on me!
But in my defence (partially) this is something very common, because I know a lot of people that live in amazing countries and most of time when they have to chose a place to visit for the holidays they decide to visit foreign countries. moreover, always in my defence, Italy has so many amazing places to visit that probably even an entire life is not enough.

Luckily for me my work requires from me to travel very frequently and most of the times I get to spend the night before in a local hotel to be rested for the day after. In this way most of the times I have some free time at night to go and visit the cities in which I have to work.
I arrived in Rome at my hotel around 7.00 PM, and as soon as I finished the check-in I went in the nearest metro station and left there the car.
The nearest metro station was that of Rebibbia, where there is a Telespazio office. Telespazio is an Italian company that is part of the Leonardo group and deals with the design and development of space systems. I know that nobody cares about this, but I am an Aerospace Engineer and so I wanted at least to mention it 😂.

Apart from Telespazio, Rebibbia is also famous (or probably I should say infamous) since is the neighborhood of the prison, and not all the people that live there are so trustworthy.

So while I was leaving with the metro all my thougths were on the security of car 😂 (spoiler: at the end nothing happened to the car, so probably I was a little bit too biased).

I got off the metro at the Circo Massimo station, and "oh my god", I had the Colosseum right in front of me. I believe that everyone knows the Colosseum, but just as a quick refresh, let's make a brief history recap:
It is the largest ancient amphitheatre ever built (completed in the year 80 A.D.), and is still the largest standing amphitheatre in the world today, despite its age.
It was used for gladiatorial contests and public spectacles including animal hunts, executions, re-enactments of famous battles, and dramas based on Roman mythology, and briefly mock sea battles.

I have seen a lot of pictures of the Colosseum, but live it is another thing. And especially at night, the game of lights is amazing as you can see from the pictures.

Near the Colosseum there is also an other monument which goes often unnoticed, that is the Arch of Constantine, which is a triumphal arch (actually the largest Roman triumphal arch) dedicated to the emperor Constantine the Great, in particular to commemorate Constantine's victory over Maxentius at the Battle of Milvian Bridge in AD 312.

But of course a business trip wouldn't be a real one, without the culinary part. And in Rome there is something that everyone has absolutely to try: Carbonara.
It took almost 1 hour of line to be able to have a seat in one of the most famous restaurants in Trastevere, one of the finest area of the capital, but it was worth it.

Of course we did not take only Carbonara, but also an appetizer with Focaccia, local jam, cheese and some vegetables.

Then turning back to the Hotel, I had also a quick view of the Vittoriano (a national monument built in honor of Victor Emmanuel II, the first king of a unified Italy).

(Edited)

I believe that trips should be complete and it is true that travelling to Rome is not complete, it is round.
I don't know if I like more your captures of impressive monuments at night or those dishes on the restaurant table.
I'm sure you had a great time :)
Thank you very much for sharing your experience and best regards.

Thanks a lot for your comment @garvi.
Yeah I actually had a great time, and I am also undecided on what I liked the most (food or monuments) 🤣 ... Probably I will go for the food this time since the carbonara was amazing
