A new Pokémon Movie, Secrets of the Jungle, is releasing on Netflix next week Friday on October 8th 2021. To celebrate this release there is now a Secrets of the Jungle event on Pokémon GO which started today, October 1 at 10 am local time. It will stay active until Sunday October 10th at 8 pm local time.

With this event there is a new Special Research "Search for Zarude!", it is limited so you can only obtain it when you log into the game during this event. But you can finish it anytime even after the event once you've obtained it. Same as every year with the Special Research for Spiritomb during the Halloween event. This Special Research will lead to an encounter with the Mythical Pokémon Zarude, known as the Rogue Monkey Pokémon. This is a Dark- and Grass-type Pokémon.

Personally I've never seen this Pokémon before as I haven't been actively playing the main series games. So I'll get to know it through Pokémon GO.

Raids

Throughout the event Genesect will be appearing in 5 star Raids until October 12 at 10 am local time. This time it will be holding the Douse Drive. Due to that it will receive a Water-type version of Techno Blast as a Charged Attack. It will not be possible to encounter Genesect Shiny at this time.

In 3-star Raids we can find Lickitung, Chansey, Pinsir, Ludicolo and Flygon. It's a bit unfortunate that Lickitung will not be appearing in the wild throughout the event, as I'm still looking for a Lucky Lickitung. But it'll be in the wild during another event again sometime.

In 1-star Raids we can find Explorer Pikachu, Larvitar, Roggenrola, Foongus and Rufflet. All of these can be Shiny except for Foongus. I was kinda hoping that Rufflet would be appearing in the wild, but unfortunately not. It can however be obtained from Event Field Research Tasks too.

Pokémon that will be appearing more in the wild as part of the event are:

  • Caterpie
  • Explorer Pikachu
  • Oddish
  • Diglett
  • Hoothoot
  • Larvitar
  • Combee
  • Pidove
  • Roggenrola
  • Drilbur
  • Cottonee
  • Dwebble

Many all of these can be Shiny with the exceptions of Hoothoot, Combee, Drilbur and Cottonee.

If you're looking for more Stardust, make sure you catch all Combee because they have a base Stardust per catch of 750. With a 187 bonus when they're weather boosted. I might try to trade Hoothoot and female Combee during this event because I don't have them Lucky yet. And only female Combee can evolve into Vespiquen. Several of these Pokémon, like Roggenrola and others, I already have Lucky but not fully evolved to get their evolutions Lucky so I might evolve them during this event.

Event Field Research Tasks:

  • Catch 10 different species of Pokémon: Rufflet
  • Defeat 5 Team GO Rocket Grunts: Rufflet
  • Hatch 2 Eggs: Audino
  • Use 5 Berries to help catch Pokémon: Exeggcute or Dwebble
  • Make 5 Curveball Throws: Diglett or Pidove
  • Take a snapshot of your buddy: Razz Berries or Pinap Berries

Jessie and James return

Jessie and James will continue their hijink from last year's event that contained Explorer Pikachu as well and gave us the Special Research for a Shiny Celebi encounter. They will photobomb your snapshots up to 5 times a day to lead to encounters with either Meowth or Wobbuffet.

Throughout the event they will also be appearing in Meowth Balloons again. They should still have their lineup from last year's event with Shadow Scyther and Shadow Pinsir encounters.

Here is a photo of an encounter with the Explorer Pikachu.

Free avatar items are available in the Style Shop such as the Adventure Hat and the Wailmer Water Bottle. Which are the ones Explorer Pikachu is also wearing.

During this event from the event spawns I still need Hoothoot and Combee Lucky so I will likely try to trade for them. I have the others Lucky, but not all of them evolved yet so I'll have to see if I still have them and opt to evolve them this time.

I was hoping that Rufflet would be appearing in the wild, but unfortunately it isn't. At least there's two event Field Research Tasks that give Rufflet encounters.
