Mega Latios and Mega Latias debut in Pokémon GO with the global Pokémon Air Adventures event

Ahoy! The first Mega-Evolved Legendary Pokémon to make their debut in Pokémon GO are Latias and Latios! Their debuts come just a few days after the changed to Mega Evolution. They make their debut during the Pokémon Air Adventures event that has started today and will run through Sunday, May 8th at 8 pm local time.
Mega Latias and Mega Latios will be in Mega Raids from today until May 10th. They're even special Mega Raid Eggs, normally Mega Raids are 4-star Eggs on Gyms and Legendary Raids are 5-star Eggs. But these Mega Legendaries are a 6-star Egg appearing on Gyms! Until May 10th these 6-star Mega Raid Eggs will replace all 4-star and 5-star Raids.
Latias gets her signature move "Mist Ball" added to the game and Latios gets his signature move "Luster Purge" added to the game. This only applies to all Latias and Latios caught during the event (and maybe for the Raids until the 10th). So if you want to add the move to one of your existing Latios or Latias you'll have to use an Elite Charge TM to get the move.
This event also has a Timed Research found under the Today View that requires catching (Flying) Pikachu and any Flying-type Pokémon. Here is a photo of it.
The Timed Research rewards 50 Latias Mega Energy and 50 Latias Mega Energy. You need a total of 300 to Mega Evolve them for the first time, so after completing this you'd still need to do a few of their Mega Raids to get the remaining Mega Energy required.
The following Pokémon will be appearing more in the wild during this event.

Event Bonuses
On the event page only a 1/2 Egg Hatch Distance for Eggs placed in Incubators during the event period was announced. But when I had my game open earlier today I saw there is also a mention of Team GO Rocket Balloons appearing more frequently during the event!
7 km Eggs obtained during the event period will contain:
- Togepi ✨
- Mantyke
- Emolga
- Noibat
Paired with the 1/2 Hatch Distance, I might try to use my unlimited Incubator to hatch some 7 km Eggs for some Mantyke and Noibat. I think that Noibat might have a lower chance to hatch than the others though. I'll find that out once I've finished hatching the 5 km Egg that's still in my Incubator.
Event Field Research Tasks
There are a few Field Research tasks from the event
- Purify 1 Shadow Pokémon: Swablu ✨
- Defeat 3 Team GO Rocket Grunts: Emolga ✨
- Catch 3 Flying-type Pokémon: Flying Pikachu ✨
- Catch 10 Pokémon with weather boost: Doduo ✨
No tasks for items as far as I'm aware.
If you're looking for more Stardust, then you should definitely look out for the increased Meowth encounters from this event because they give 500 Stardust per catch and 625 if they're weather boosted.

Aww that's unfortunate :( Maybe still a chance if you're planning to do some more Raids this Monday. At least I think they'll still be in Raids then if I'm not mistaken.
