You can achieve what ever you want, only if you believe.

While growing up, I grew up in the means of people who speaks only my native language. Yoruba language is my native language which I do speak confidently or fluently. However, In my country Nigeria, English language is an official language that everyone needs to know how to speak, to write and understand, but as for me English language trouble me a lot, Isn't that I personally hate the language but due to low self-esteem that I developed while trying to interact with people using this language makes me to hate English language.

I have started developing low self-esteem toward English language since my primary school days from the very first moment that I try letting English out of my mouth that everyone just ended up correcting my grammar and laugh at me, make me believe that my English is terrible. I began to lack confidence towards English from that day. I’d rather remain silent anywhere I go than to be embarrassed.

Even when I entered secondary school, I continue to avoid interaction with people using English language. My hate towards English language grew to the extent that I didn't use to go to school whenever I was assigned to give morning speech.

I never knew that this would become a problem for me until I didn’t got admission into university because I failed English language and other subjects that required use of English language, in my O’level examination. That I have to re-write the examination over and over again, during this period I even feel like giving up.

So one day, I decided to overcome the low self esteem and learned English language by myself because it’s something that can be overcome.

Here I'm today, a graduate and also blogging on Hiveblog. I stay motivated throughout this time listening to this music.

Nas - I can.

video gotten from youtube

I can was sang by Nas, it is the seventh song from his sixth album titled God's Son and was released in the year 2002. Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones with a staged name Nas is an American rappers, singer and songwriter with 14 studio albums.

This song has a lot of beautiful meaning. In the beginning of the song, Nas urges the listener to believe in themselves and be determined. If you work hard, you can be whatever you wanted to become in life.

He went on to encourage listener to abstain for bad company, negative influence such as drugs, rapist that may affect them from achieving their dream. It also encourage listener to value education, sharing with them the importance of education, reason to choose right company and why they need to be successful.

From this one song, I have learned a lot, it encourage me to know that success didn't come easily. I need to strive hard, believe in myself and never give up on my my dream

Overall it's a song of hope, hardworking, determination, encouragement, stay strong and stay focus in other to succeed.

Save the music y'll

Seeing the way you write, I couldn't have even imagined that you once hated English language. I mean, I do get that you grew up speaking Yoruba and that probably had a big influence on you disliking English but it's the official language of Nigeria and no matter how you try, you can't run from it. Thank God you decided to overcome your low self-esteem and learn English, it's certainly better this way and your English will keep improving the more you use it

This is so inspirational and it's true that if we set our hearts on things that we truly want, we will achieve them.

I understand how you feel and it's great to know that you are now a graduate. Congratulations and I am very happy for you.

Once you made up your mind then nothing is impossible for you. People always discourage us but by high esteem we prove them wrong. I am glad to learn that you learned it. And i will also listen this song to stay motivated.

Judging from your usage of words it is quite difficult to deduce that you once had difficulties with English language. Learning English Language might seem difficult at first especially if we grew up in a society where the language is less spoken. I'm glad you have overcome your fears and low self esteem.
