Market Friday / Treasure Hunt

avatar

Hello to all my Market Friday friends and the wonderful Host @dswigle.

I would like to take you on a little excursion to our local SPCA on a hunt for Salt and Pepper cellars.

A few weeks ago I accidently dropped my ceramic salt and pepper cellars on the floor and broke them. I was really mad at myself because they were a gift from a special friend.

Any way!...we had to go to the Veggie shop to buy some odds and ends, so decided to pop into the SPCA; it's one of my favorite places to go to when I need wine glasses or the odd plate or cup and saucer.
I try and support them as much as I can, as all the proceedings go towards feeding and caring for the animals that are sheltered there.

bpard.jpgWe parked under the shady trees in the parking area and took a stroll through the garden.

gn tea garden.jpg
We walked through Marilyn's Tea Garden and were welcomed with music from the 70's, these ladies were having great fun dancing to the beat.

It was good to see people enjoying the sunshine after the torrential rain we've had a few weeks ago.

peacocks.jpg
Even the Peacocks were enjoying themselves.

menu.jpg
We didn't stop for tea and cake today. I was on another mission, and that was to find my Salt and Pepper Cellars.

long dog cafe.jpg
The Long Dog Café was closed they sell doggie treats.

clothing 5.jpg
There are many different stores selling a variety of donated items.
The clothing stalls are in abundance.

art.jpg
There is art work on display and picture frames for sale.

music and art.jpg
From musical instruments to art to lamp shades to be bought.

thrift shop sign.jpg
We continued our journey through the different thrift shops searching for that special pair of salt and pepper cellars.

cutlery.jpg
I was determined to find them even if I had to go through every shelf and store room.

Mr Snow man waiting patiently for someone to take him home for Christmas.
One is able to find almost anything at these little stalls.

marque.jpg
I looked in every shop that was open, couldn't find what I was looking for.

odds and ends.jpg
After an hour of rummaging through everything on the shelves from marquee to stalls to huts, I was ready to give up my search.

silver wear.jpg
As we were walking back through the tea garden, my eye caught this little shop...Omg!...how did I miss it.

hidden treasures.jpg
I walked into the little "Hidden Treasure's Shop" I had a good feeling I'd find my "Salt and Pepper Cellars".

orniments.jpg
I looked through the shelves...I know they're here...they have to be...then I looked up on the upper shelf.

slip salt pepper.jpg
There they were, smiling at me, I found these two happy little treasures "Salt and Pepper".
Being a lover of pottery, I knew these two would be just perfect for my kitchen, and the price being right at R40.00.

Happy with my findings, we made our way back to the car and drove off stopping at the vegetable store "Oxford's" Fresh Market to buy some veggies.

I was so excited with finding my Salt and Pepper Cellars I almost forgot to take photo's of what we bought at Oxford's.

I wanted to make beef curry and rice and needed garlic and ginger, but went away with a trolly load of potatoes, carrots, cabbage garlic and ginger.

I'll do another post on Oxfords next time, I promise.

Finding what you looked for always a great achievement, my brother and his wife frequently visit living on that side of town. Always mention how wonderful this SPCA is, with relaxing gardens to walk through, little shops fund raising for the animals, not to mention many pets over the years being treated by their wonderful staff.

My heart breaks for those animals, those beautiful horses that have been neglected, it's so heart breaking, I can't even go to that side of it any more, I just want to take them all home. Thanks @joanstewart for stopping by.

Donations we deliver down or donate via EFT to SPCA and CROW, I don't have the heart to go into the caged animal areas. Animal abuse or rescue I phone as they have authority to enter premise, we see too much happening of late!

Special teams now go into green areas to remove snares, something we have done over the years especially when involved with Scouting. Currently done in big organized groups combing the bush for safety as much as clearing to preserve wildlife and pets when wondering around.

It's so heart breaking. I try and do as much as I can, but unfortunately I think people need to be more educated about the welfare of animals. That is a matter very close to my heart. Thank you @joanstewart for your concern.

I really liked your post and everything you did to get your perfect salt and pepper shakers. It really shows that you have a passion and the place is fabulous. Thanks for sharing it with us. Plus your meat curry dish looks super delicious. I've looked at the silver blogger community and I'm not sure I can fit in there.

I love writing about just about anything, but I'm in my infancy when it comes to crypto. What I do frame is in the age hahaha.

You actually drop your link on my #MarketFriday post so that people can find you. :)Next time!❤️

I love your little salt cellars - they are so adorable. I love ceramic/dishes/glasses...especially the odd one. Whoever sets the table for dinner at night gets to choose which dishes we use. It has always been an incentive to set the table. :)

I love thrift shops and this one would probably be one of my favorites as they support the animals. I am glad you support them. My mother-in-law gave me her collection of salt and peppers when she was downsizing, she had been collecting them for about 40 years I think! She was a thrifter! There were so many different kinds, made of so many different things... I didn't know they made that many. They are cool to look at, but, I really only need one!

This was so fun to go with you and I am so happy that, in the end, you won your prize!!!! Next time, the market. But, we had this market, so all is awesome!

I have run so far behind in the comments of #MarketFriday that I am having to do the abbreviated one so that I can finish them in an (almost) timely manner. For this, I apologize, but, just know that it doesn't change the way I viewed your post. I have read them all at least once, some twice and as usual, I am pleased to say that I always get the best. I just love how people have embraced the community and have really been making an effort to visit the other posts, learning about each other and giving pieces of advice, their opinions, and most of all, showing support to each other. That is what community is all about. I want to thank you for doing that.

Thank you for being part of #MarketFriday! I am honored.

#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers' markets, and eventually branched out and evolved over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but, it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, and even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact that is these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world.
