Let’s celebrate 250 #beersaturdays together!
Today we celebrate the 250th #beersaturday…
…and while all around us is sedate and sensible here we are, slurring and stumbling our way around the blockchain
Bravo to @detlev and all of the wonderfully dedicated beer bloggers who keep on beating their livers, week-in and week-out. I doth my cap to you all and thank you again for some absolutely brilliant tales of beer.
Cheers! 🍻
So welcome to the party. Go put your coat in the cloak room and park you beers in the fridge. It’s that awkward part of the party when nobody is drunk enough to let loose and no one wants to be the first to raid the food table. For now, all that’s left to do is to take a seat and wait...
But hold on…@article61 has just arrived and check out the beers he’s packin!!
Yep! I’ve brought along the good stuff and they’re all beers that will get this party jumping. So hold on to your party poppers, folks, because here we go!
Now, you never want to start a party by drinking the strongest brew available. We’ve all made this mistake and we all know that its a one-way street to carnage avenue, followed by a visit down shame lane. You’ve been warned. Now, behave, you beer junkies…
Haha! What are you, some kind of Lily-livered, fun-sucking, Plain-Jane? This is the 250th #beersaturday and we will embrace the carnage we create and dive head-first into embarrassment
First up…
…Neon Raptors “Naughty Luggage”.
With an ABV of 6.8% this New England IPA Isa real banger. Packed with tropical fruity flavours, this crisp clean bevvy is a real treat and one to savour in the sunshine. Just one problem, it tastes so moreish you’ll be gulping it down in seconds. Oh well, at least you’re not plastered yet so there’s a good chance you’ll remember it and buy yourself some more.
Taste rating - 7.5 out of 10
Appearance - Hazy amber colour with brilliant white and foamy head.
Can art - 7 out of 10.
2nd beer of the night and things are getting naughty, very naughty in fact…
Neon Raptor’s, “Very Naughty Luggage”
Like most naughty big brothers, they have to take things to the limit and, more often than not, push things a little too far. This 8.2% DIPA is no exception to that rule. Crammed with Citra, Mosaic, and Simcoe hops, this is a beer that’s amped up to the gills, like a Macho-Man Randy Savage in beer form.
I thought I’d enjoy this beer much more than I actually did and while it was flavourful it was just too bitter and dry. Maybe it’s a beer that needs to be drank alongside a 64oz T-bone steak, who knows? Frankly, it’s not the beer for me and I’m not about the buy an expensive lump of cow just to see if it improves the experience.
Taste rating - 5 out of 10
Appearance - Slightly hazy amber liquid with not enough of a head to bother mentioning.

And now we move to the 3rd beverage of the night and it’s time to get this party jumping!
Totally Brewed, “Drink this Michael, become one of us”
Does it really matter what this beer tastes like? Well, maybe it does, but what’s the point in discussing that without first speaking of the awesome artistry that adorns this can? How the hell Totally brewed manage to get the rights to put such iconic movie characters on their cans is anyones guess. First it was Jay and Silent Bob, and now it’s the characters from one of the greatest vampire movie ever made, Lost Boys.
As is customary with beers from Totally Brewed, the name is as much of a mouthful as the beer itself. I’m not a great fan of the titles they give their beers but on this occasion I get it.
As for the beer within, this hoppy pale ale is a pleasant brew. It’s not got the depth of flavour I’d like it to have but for a beer that’s just 5.4% there is only so much that can be expected. Nonetheless, it’s a beer that’s very reasonably priced considering the quality and for that reason I’ve sampled more than one.
Taste rating - 6 out of 10
Appearance - Opaque amber liquid with a decent head of froth.

For those still standing, we come to the 4th beer of the night, and it’s an absolute beauty!
Deya, “Saturated in Citra”
This is one of those beers you just wish you would have brought more of. Saturated in Citra is an absolute dream beer for me and it’s one that when you pour it you instantly know you’re in for a treat.
Calling this a hazy beer would be an understatement. This beer goes beyond hazy and enters the realm of creamy. But this is no beer-smoothie, this is just a masterclass in brewing with Citra hops to produce one of the finest beer around. This full flavoured DIPA just engulfs the senses and long after you’ve guzzled it down you can still taste the beer. “Sublime” is the only word I can think of to best describe this beer and even then I think I’m under-selling it.
If you like a hazy Citra then this beer is an absolute must! This is gold in a can. Sadly the beer shop where I purchased this beer has sold out, but I’ve found a few on-line and they’re winging their way ever closer to me as you read this post.

Well my friends, are you ready for your next beer?
Beer No.5 - Amarillo, from Brass Castle Brewery.
This single hop DDH Pale is a worthy addition to this weeks collection. Very different from the others both in taste and appearance.
Amarillo is a classic beer, copper in colour and with a trademark white frothy head that lasts the distance. Slightly bitter to taste but not so much as to make it overbearing, Amarillo is a solid all-rounder. Giving this beer and extra dollop of allure is the artwork that decorated the can. Straight out of an original Batman episode, this style of art really catches the eye, like a left hook from Robin. Kapow!!
Taste rating - 6.5 out of 10
Appearance - Traditional beer, a true classic never dies.

one more for the road! Beer No.6
LBF, “Extreme Citra”
As soon as you crack open the can the scent of a thousand citrus fruits burst out. This truly is extreme Citra.
Carrying an ABV of 8.8% these fruits certainly have a kick to them. Unlike many Citra beers where all I taste is lemon, this Citra boasts a bouquet of different fruit flavours. I have to admit that this beer is one for the hardcore Citra drinkers out there and while I thought I was one I’m now thinking that I’ve found my limit. On the right day, sat in the sun in some beer-garden, I’d say this beer would be perfect. As for a beer I’d drink in the evening, I’d have to say I’d rather not. However, I can’t continue to complain about this beer as it states quite clearly on the can what to expect and in that respect it really does deliver. Well balanced, not too bitter, and very refreshing. Can’t fault it really.
Taste rating - 6.5 out of 10
Appearance - Deep amber liquid with a tasty looking head of white foam.
