Indonesia has a unique market tradition called Pasar Hari Meugang, Pasar Meugang itself is held to welcome the holy month of Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. At the Hari Meugang market, what we will find in the market are only cattle traders. There are also several traders who sell other than beef on Meugang Day, but the goods they sell are cooking ingredients that will be used to cook the beef itself.

And in the area where we live, the Meugang market usually only lasts half a day, from 04:00 in the morning to 13:00 in the afternoon. This morning I went out very early to shop for beef on this very festive Meugang day.

When I arrived at the market, it was still very dark in the morning and the beef traders had just brought the beef they were going to sell to the market. I deliberately went a little early in the morning because I wanted to see the market atmosphere meowing with satisfaction.

Even though I want to buy beef, I prefer to go around first to see the market atmosphere and the various types of beef that are displayed on the hanging poles that have been provided by the meugang day committee. Not felt, the morning sun is now getting bright enough to shine brightly.

Slowly buyers from various regions are now starting to flood the market to buy fresh beef at the Meugang market. The market atmosphere this morning is really very crowded so people have to jostle to see and buy beef here.

Here I see 4 beef thighs that are hanging from a pole and are very large in size, the beef thighs are in great demand by the people on meugang days because the meat is really high quality and very suitable for cooking in any way.

Apart from beef, here they also sell cow skin and all the organs in the cow, from head to tail. In addition to beef traders on Meugang Day, there are also many traders selling chicken, fish, shrimp and vegetables. Today is a very festive day and the hero that the people of Indonesia have been waiting for.

In the afternoon I saw that the atmosphere in the market was getting busier, the boisterous atmosphere between traders and buyers made me really enjoy this crowded atmosphere. And most importantly, it turns out that here there are also sellers of special seasonings for natural beef which have been ground to perfection.

Look at the beef hanging here, everything looks very fresh because all of these cows were just slaughtered last night so the meat is really fresh, on this meugang day 1 Kg of beef is being sold for $12 USD. And it turns out that besides the beef seller here I also saw someone selling children's toy balloons in the middle of the beef seller, this person was very creative in selling his wares because there are also many people who come here with their small children.

Usually these balloons are sold at a price of $ 0.7 USD. Satisfied with playing around and seeing various market conditions and various types of beef, I finally decided to buy 2 kg of beef at a price of $ 24 USD. Then I also don't forget to buy a pack of spices for $0.7 USD so that when I get home my mother can immediately cook the beef that I brought home today.

People usually go to the market early in the morning to catch freshly harvested food... This market reminded me of ours in my province.

That is smart, to go to the market and be able to look around for the seller that you like best unless you know someone already. The meat is at its freshest, having been freshly slaughtered and it will taste its best cooked that same day.

I am familiar with this market and it is one of the highlights as you are starting Ramadan.

I hope your mother liked the spices you brought home and the beef made a delicious celebration with the family!

#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers' markets, and eventually branched out and evolved over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, and even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact that these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world. Thank you for being a part of #MarketFriday
