It is important to address these issues at the beginning of the school year, as this will help us to lay the groundwork and have good communication with the teacher throughout the school year.

1-What we as parents observe at home.

Commonly when the school year begins, children begin to feel pressure when they learn and think differently, especially when they have been learning at a distance or through a hybrid system for more than a year. Then knowing that school is about to start again can cause anxiety.
If during learning at home your child had any problems understanding or grasping something, that is a matter for the teacher to know, but let's not start with the negative. We can say, "My child is very excited about his class," and then refer to the difficulties we observed our children having.

We can ask "How can I help make this school year less challenging and smoother for my child?".

2-Academic aspects.

Perhaps as parents we don't have a specific concern, or we are simply "worried about academic regression as a result of the pandemic".

Whatever our concerns, we need to talk to the teacher about what we think. Likewise, we need to embrace the strengths and challenges our children have. And something very important is that if the teacher and the representative have agreements in common, the student will not receive any kind of contradiction because together the representative and the teacher will attack the same difficulties.

We can ask: "Are you who evaluate him/her convinced that my child has a solid academic foundation to advance to the next unit? If the answer is no, what can we practice at home to help?".

3-Priorities in the classroom.

Some teachers focus on having strong relationships with students and their families, others prioritize class participation, others prioritize teaching the entire schedule for the school year, so we need to know the priorities from the beginning so we know what benefits our children.

We can ask "What are your most important priorities this year? What would you recommend me to know in order to help my child in those areas?".

4-Social-emotional learning.

In children social interaction is impactful to the school experience and this topic is difficult to address, as for teachers with so many children in class and at recess it is not easy to monitor them all. We need to share our observations and concerns so that the teacher understands.

We can ask "How do you work or what ideas do you have for your students' social-emotional learning?".

5-Very important, get organized and stay organized.

If our children find it difficult to be organized and consequently to manage their time, it is obvious that the teacher will notice it, and this could be the first obstacle that our children may have. We should discuss this and look at possible solutions.

We can ask: "Do you think my child will be able to do the work? Does my child not understand the indications you give when changing activities?
