Hello dear friends of EcoTrain, I hope you are very well.

Sorry for my absence of several days from the community, I was very busy with other projects. I know that lately I have been talking more about what is wrong with the world, so today I bring you one of those posts that help us to have hope for a better future. And that as a species we can change for the better. So let's get started.

Nearly 1000 Rorqual [fin whale] whales were spotted TOGETHER near Antarctica.

The fin whale is the second largest animal in the world, only the humpback whale is larger, in the last century more than 2 million specimens were married around the world, and were driven almost to extinction, but thanks to the efforts of those who protested in the 70s and 80s and who achieved a change in the laws to prohibit whaling, today you can enjoy this spectacle.

Whales are tremendously intelligent animals, and fin whales can live up to 140 years, so one of the consequences of whaling, apart from the reduction of their numbers to near extinction was a modification of their behavior pattern, to avoid being hunted they stopped traveling in large groups, so if a group was intercepted by whalers the losses were not so catastrophic, and small groups are more difficult to detect by ships in the vastness of the sea. Seeing so many together again not only means that the world is healing, but that they are also healing and no longer feel threatened....

Nearly half of the new power generation capacity by 2022 in the United States will be Solar.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration already has the projections of the generation capacity that will be installed this year in the country, and they look really good, not only solar energy represents 46 percent, being the most used by far, but also wind energy with 17%, and very important, coal or diesel are nowhere to be found, which shows progress in complying with the Kyoto protocol and other agreements.

I have talked before about how promising the new advances in solar energy technology are for creating clean energy and how it is becoming the most viable option around the world, but having information from an official U.S. government agency like the EIA is always good to generate more confidence.

Bill Gates to Spend $1.5 Billion to Combat Climate Change.

I know Bill Gates is a very controversial character, but it is not out of his person the humanitarian initiatives, and now this money that will be used in conjunction with the budget approved by President Biden for research and development of clean technologies within the stimulus package 1.2 trillion dollars launched recently, will be very useful for those promising projects that need is capital, such as the use of hydrogen or make solar energy more efficient.

This can also be said to be something fair and necessary, that those who are immensely rich start to collaborate to fight climate change since their wealth was created causing it, and another point is the fact that they start to realize that they will not escape the consequences of environmental destruction, maybe they can avoid them for a while, but the planet is a circle, and the tragedy is imminent, they do not have time to escape to another planet.

Hawaii is the first state in the United States to ban shark fishing.

It may not seem like much, but the fact that as of January 1st of this new year, shark fishing in Hawaii will be banned is a development that can be replicated in other states in the United States, and from there to other major countries. It is also a sign of growing awareness of the importance of protecting sharks, which are threatened by overfishing around the world, usually only to cut off their fins and discard the rest. Shark fin soup is a much sought-after delicacy in Asia.

Hopefully this will become a trend, sharks [and all predators for that matter] are a very important part of the ecosystem, as they help control their prey populations and keep them healthy by eating the sick. They are also an excellent tool for measuring the health of an ecosystem, as they derive pollutants from their prey, for example, and are also an indication of the population levels of their prey. Protecting sharks is protecting the sea in general.

We can turn non-recyclable plastic into building materials.

The world's plastic problem is far from solved, I have already written about how most plastic simply cannot be recycled, but recently a Los Angeles company is processing about 450 tons per year of non-recyclable plastic by standard means into building blocks.

The blocks are lighter and stronger than normal blocks, which are manufactured with a process involving steam and compression. Although the technology has not yet been perfected, it is expected that by 2030 the company will have processed 100 million tons of plastic.

The idea is not new, and best of all, it is not exclusive to the North; Asian countries such as the Philippines and African nations have also resorted to this system both to solve the plastic problem and to create housing and provide jobs for the population.

Conclusion.

Certainly the world is bad, climate change is an imminent threat, but it is not a dead-end abyss we face, the solutions are out there, this news proves it, we just need more people to get involved, to have the will to step forward for a better world...

"We can turn non-recyclable plastic into building materials."

This is the craziest and most amazing idea I have heard so far about recycling plastics. BRAVO! Just amazing! Would love to learn more and dive in deep.

Amid the chaos, this is definitely the good news.
