Este fin de semana pasado, aparte de nuestra cena navideña con el grupo de entrenamiento, también teníamos un compromiso muy bonito que ya habíamos confirmado hace más de un mes, y se trataba de la Carrera/caminata Santa Run, creada por la Fundación Los Ángeles de Bárbara, y que consistía en recaudar la mayor cantidad posible de juguetes nuevos para ser donados a niños de escasos recursos en las ciudades de El Tigre y El Tigrito, estado Anzoátegui.

Puedo decir con gran orgullo y satisfacción que me encantó formar parte de esta causa tan bonita, y más aún saber que la fundación superó las expectativas de la meta trazada. El sábado en la tarde nos dimos cita frente a la alcaldía de la ciudad de El Tigrito (Guanipa), bastante cerca de mi casa, por lo que pude irme a pie y así ya ir calentando los músculos antes de la caminata.

Se trataba de una carrera/caminata nocturna, y la misma inició a las 6 de la tarde. Por estar en medio del periodo de noches largas, en menos de media hora ya había oscurecido, y no tienen idea de lo bien que se sentía poder caminar libremente por el medio de la avenida principal, de noche, con aquella brisa llanera tan rica, y sin temor de que viniera algún carro, jajajaja.

Los corredores tuvieron un trayecto más largo, hasta pasar el puente del río que conecta a Guanipa con San Tomé, y todavía 2 kilómetros más allá. Los corredores de nuestro equipo lograron unas capturas hermosas del atardecer llanero, mientras que yo pude capturar algunas imágenes del atardecer en la avenida.

Hubo sambas en la ruta, mucha gente animando, puestos de control y auxilio, puntos de hidratación, y demasiada gente esperando en la meta. Fueron 5 km de caminata que se hicieron suaves por la hora y la brisa fresca de la noche. Al llegar, había merienda, bailes navideños, y grupos de gaitas. Todo estuvo muy bonito, se premiaron los primeros lugares. Mi hija no compitió, una vez más fue Pacer de la carrera, y el Grupo Vida formó parte de los patrocinadores del evento. Me alegra saber cómo cada año más gente se une a esta disciplina, y cómo a través de ella, se logra apoyar a muchas causas benéficas en la ciudad.

Last weekend, in addition to our Christmas dinner with the training group, we also had a wonderful commitment that we had confirmed over a month ago: the Santa Run/Walk, created by the Los Ángeles de Bárbara Foundation. The goal was to collect as many new toys as possible to donate to underprivileged children in the cities of El Tigre and El Tigrito, Anzoátegui state.

I can say with great pride and satisfaction that I loved being part of this beautiful cause, and even more so knowing that the foundation exceeded its target. On Saturday afternoon, we met in front of the El Tigrito (Guanipa) city hall, quite close to my house, so I was able to walk there and warm up my muscles before the walk.

It was a nighttime run/walk, and it started at 6:00 p.m. Because it was the middle of the long nights, it was dark in less than half an hour, and you have no idea how good it felt to be able to walk freely down the middle of the main avenue at night, with that wonderful plains breeze, and without fear of a car coming, hahaha.

The runners had a longer route, going all the way across the river bridge that connects Guanipa with San Tomé, and then another 2 kilometers further. The runners on our team managed to capture some beautiful shots of the plains sunset, while I was able to take some pictures of the sunset on the avenue.

There were sambas along the route, lots of people cheering, checkpoints and aid stations, hydration points, and a huge crowd waiting at the finish line. It was a 5 km walk that felt easy thanks to the time of day and the cool night breeze. At the finish, there was a snack, Christmas dances, and gaita groups. Everything was lovely, and prizes were awarded to the top finishers. My daughter didn't compete; she was a pacer for the race once again, and Grupo Vida was one of the event's sponsors. I'm happy to see how more and more people are joining this activity each year, and how it helps support many charitable causes in the city.
