Pride Month: My Favorite LGBTQ+ Characters 🏳️‍🌈

Hoy quiero hablarles de un tema que me toca muy de cerca y que, sinceramente, me parecía una falta de respeto dejar pasar sin mencionar: la representación LGBTQ+ en la literatura, especialmente en este mes tan importante como lo es el Mes del Orgullo.

En esta ocasión quiero destacar a tres personajes que no solo me marcaron como lectora, sino que también me enseñaron el poder de ser auténticos, valientes y fieles a quienes realmente somos. Estos personajes pertenecen a historias que me han acompañado, emocionado y en algunos casos, dejado completamente marcada por su profundidad emocional y desarrollo humano.

Today I want to talk to you about a topic that touches me very closely and that, honestly, I felt it was disrespectful to let pass without mentioning: LGBTQ+ representation in literature, especially in this month as important as Pride Month is.

On this occasion I want to highlight three characters that not only marked me as a reader, but also taught me the power of being authentic, brave and true to who we really are. These characters belong to stories that have accompanied me, moved me, and in some cases, left me completely marked by their emotional depth and human development.

He hablado en varias ocasiones de esta historia en mi blog, y no me cansaré de hacerlo, porque sinceramente la considero una de las mejores que he leído en Wattpad. Reiner, el protagonista, es un joven bisexual con una personalidad profundamente auténtica y compleja.

I've talked about this story several times on my blog, and I won't tire of doing so, because I honestly consider it one of the best I've read on Wattpad. Reiner, the main character, is a young bisexual with a deeply authentic and complex personality.

Lo que más me ha tocado de su personaje es su vulnerabilidad: sus miedos, su dolor, su conflicto con su hermana mayor… todo está plasmado con una sensibilidad que se siente muy real. Su relación con Samuel es, para mí, uno de los romances “rivals to lovers” más orgánicos y bien desarrollados que he leído. No hay forzamientos ni clichés vacíos; hay evolución, conexión y emociones que se sienten tan verdaderas que es imposible no enamorarse de esta historia.

What touched me most about her character is her vulnerability: her fears, her pain, her conflict with her older sister...it's all captured with a sensitivity that feels very real. Her relationship with Samuel is, for me, one of the most organic and well-developed "rivals to lovers" romances I've read. There's no forcing or empty clichés; there's evolution, connection, and emotions that feel so true that it's impossible not to fall in love with this story.

🌿 Patroclo — La Canción de Aquiles/ The Song of Achilles

Quiero aclarar que no conozco en profundidad al Patroclo de La Ilíada, pero sí puedo hablarles con el corazón en la mano del Patroclo que conocí en La Canción de Aquiles. Esta novela es una reinterpretación mitológica que le da vida propia a un personaje que, en muchas versiones, ha sido relegado al fondo.

I want to clarify that I do not know in depth the Patroclus of The Iliad, but I can speak to you with my heart in my hand about the Patroclus I met in The Song of Achilles. This novel is a mythological reinterpretation that gives a life of its own to a character that, in many versions, has been relegated to the background.

Patroclo es un joven gay, tierno, empático y profundamente humano. Su carácter compasivo contrasta con el mundo cruel y violento que lo rodea, y es esa misma dulzura lo que me hizo admirarlo tanto. Su vínculo con Aquiles no es solo una historia de amor, es una conexión espiritual que traspasa el tiempo y las palabras. Su lealtad, su ternura y la forma en la que ama sin condiciones me dejaron profundamente conmovida. Ese final… me dejó literalmente en lágrimas. Un personaje inolvidable.

Patroclus is a gay young man, tender, empathetic and deeply human. His compassionate nature contrasts with the cruel and violent world around him, and it is that very gentleness that made me admire him so much. His bond with Achilles is not just a love story, it is a spiritual connection that transcends time and words. His loyalty, his tenderness and the way he loves unconditionally left me deeply moved. That ending...literally left me in tears. An unforgettable character.

Ay… mi entrañable brujo de Brooklyn. Si bien mi amor eterno en esta saga es Jem Carstairs, debo confesar que mi personaje favorito sin lugar a dudas es Magnus Bane.

Oh... my beloved Brooklyn warlock. While my undying love in this saga is Jem Carstairs, I must confess that my hands-down favorite character is Magnus Bane.

Magnus es abiertamente bisexual, un ser inmortal con siglos de historia y un sinfín de relaciones a lo largo de los años. Pero lo que realmente lo hace destacar no es solo su orientación, sino su carisma, su poder y, sobre todo, su corazón. A pesar de haber vivido tanto, sigue amando con intensidad y entrega, y su relación con Alec Lightwood, un cazador de sombras gay, es una de las parejas queer más queridas y memorables del mundo literario juvenil.

Magnus is openly bisexual, an immortal being with centuries of history and countless relationships over the years. 💖 Estos tres personajes —Reiner, Patroclo y Magnus— representan algo más que simples figuras dentro de una historia. Son voces que gritan autenticidad en un mundo que a veces quiere silenciar lo diferente. Son ejemplos de cómo la literatura puede ayudar a visibilizar, humanizar y abrazar la diversidad, y de cómo el amor, en cualquiera de sus formas, siempre merece ser contado.

These three characters - Reiner, Patroclus and Magnus - represent more than just figures in a story. **They are voices that shout authenticity in a world that sometimes wants to silence what is different. They are examples of how literature can help to make visible, humanize and embrace diversity, and how love, in any form, always deserves to be told.
