Video game classic for the present [EN-DE] Video-Spiel-Klassiker für die Gegenwart

We recently found a modern FOSS variant of a 1980s video game classic thanks to the f-droid.org app store. There is a bit of text in the gameplay that introduces and accompanies the game in tidbits. Very imaginative and adventurous! The available translations are good to sufficient, and so written language can be learned adventurously with it. That's exactly how I learned English back then, despite all the schooling that had almost ruined English for me.

Shattered Pixel Dungeon is the name of the game, and according to an Italian Wikipedia page, it is a fork of Pixel Dungeon, which was developed until 2015. That's all I could find on Wikipedia for now. https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pixel_Dungeon

It is called "rogue-like", and that means that the gameplay goes back to that very classic from the 1980s. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rogue_(video_game)

The gameplay is turn-based, which means that the game can be paused at any time, just like in a game of chess against a computer. I find this valuable, as it decelerates the handling at the device, compared to many modern games that vie for our attention. Those who know me know that this is also the way I enjoy chess the most. I don't play it against a computer, though, but prefer to play it as correspondence chess against friends and those who want to become friends.

In the Google Playstore, Shattered Pixel Dungeon is currently rated as playable for ages 10 and up. The predecessor on Google, on the other hand, is rated for ages 13 and up. On Apple's store, on the other hand, both are rated as playable for ages 9 and up, the predecessor as well as the "Shattered" variant.

The developer runs a page on Patreon, which also links to the source code via GitHub. I hope there will soon be a good alternative to Patreon that allows regular sponsorship without fees and without KYC, as is normal for musicians who regularly play at their favorite locations - or run their own channels online - because I like to support such effort very much. First approaches for recurring payments exist with Hive e.g. per peakd.com or for BCH with noise.cash and read.cash per user sponsoring. (While I found out that at Read it's not actually a recurring payment.) The Patreon page is https://www.patreon.com/ShatteredPixel

We hope you enjoyed this little excursion into our family life. Maybe we'll see each other in the leaderboard or make a direct comparison. There is an incredible amount to discover in the game. Much is even reminiscent of basics in Minecraft. An exchange will certainly be inspiring.

PS: This post is at Read.cash as well and can easily overtipped there with #BCH 😉

Screenshot with language settings

Vieles erinnert gar an Grundlagen in Minecraft.

Love reading posts about computer, and gamr history. I'm only 23 so I missed alot of stuff. Find It very interesting it was designed for BSD, but it reminds me of the sad fact BSD did'nt survive.
