My Market Friday at The Ballet School ........

..........is located in an old multi-cultured and highly populated suburb of West End in Brisbane. Until you are told that this ordinary two storey red brick building is the historical Queensland Ballet School.

The company’s home is the historic Thomas Dixon Centre for Dance in Brisbane's West End. Celebrating its centenary in 2008, the building was first built as a shoe factory in 1908. It now contains four large dance studios, one of which, the Charles Lisner Studio, can be adapted as a performance venue. These facilities enable the company to offer a full range of training and community access programs

The space between the old school and new centre is very small emphasising the extreme differences. Of course there is a lot of community speculation as to why this decision was made.

Currently the Ballet School is surrounded with fencing for an update along with a major development of new very different looking Thomas Dixon Centre, being currently constructed very closely next door. It has taken two years and predicted to be completed in 12 months. Covid has caused delays of building materials and it is not expected to be due completed until next year.

This is a photo showsthe back of the Thomas Dixon Centre.

The old and new side by side each with a role to play. From what I am told the new update modern Thomas Dixon Centre will have a spectacular performance centre along with restaurants, bars and dance studios.

But, at this present time I am working solely on supposition that the old Ballet School will continue to be a working ballet place for the students and the community, for the older population, the disabled and for those who have diseases like Parkinson.

Drat and bummer there was no climbing over walls, and it was not physically dangerous or dirty like @slobberchops. I was even decked out with my big walking boots and long trousers etc. All I could do was poke my camera through narrow spots to actually see what was going on.

Even worse my little adventurous creeping into the old Ballet School failed, I was caught and cautioned by an over zealous health and safety worker. So, taking photos photos from the outside looking in was my last resort!

Whenever I visit West End I plan to sit and sip coffee at the Espresso Italiano cafe positioned across from the Ballet School and check out the progress of the building and renovations. I only hope that little tours into the Ballet School will be available for inquisitive members of the public.

Busted!!! You should know better than to go into an ongoing construction site! They will find you!!!! :)

What a great find, though! I love the ballet and this looks like an absolutely awesome place. I can hardly wait until it is done and we can take a peek inside! I am sure the fusion of these two buildings will make more sense when they get further along. The lines spell beautiful!

Do you live close enough to attend their performances?

I like your style! Let's go for a sitdown and have a cappuccino!

I have run so far behind in the comments of #MarketFriday that I am having to do the abbreviated one so that I can finish them in an (almost) timely manner. For this, I apologize, but, just know that it doesn't change the way I viewed your post. I have read them all at least once, some twice and as usual, I am pleased to say that I always get the best. I just love how people have embraced the community and have really been making an effort to visit the other posts, learning about each other and giving pieces of advice, their opinions, and most of all, showing support to each other. That is what community is all about. I want to thank you for doing that.

Thank you for being part of #MarketFriday! I am honored.

#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers' markets, and eventually branched out and evolved over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but, it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, and even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact that is these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world.
