Plant-Based Spaghetti With Homemade Tomato Sauce

Homemade sauce is always better than the instant one from the package.

Tomato sauce? I often imagine tomatoes that don't match my tongue when I buy tomato sauce at a supermarket that specializes in spaghetti. Maybe, my tongue is just not used to eating spaghetti.

Do you know what, spaghetti is called rich people's noodles by the people in my village 🤣 For a pack of 200 grams of spaghetti, it costs $1 or more depending on different brands. Meanwhile for local noodles, the most expensive is around 0.5 for 500 grams. ehehe. What about the price of spaghetti in your area?

For me it doesn't matter. Every tongue in various regions has its own taste. But that doesn't mean we can't eat dishes typical of other countries. We just need to adjust the food spices to the spices we usually use in daily food.

So, this time I will make Spaghetti in my version. With my homemade sauce. I will still use tomato sauce, but add my favorite comfort-flavor.

MY FAVORITE TOMATO SAUCE 🍅 🍅 🍅

Who would have thought, it turns out that the homemade tomato sauce that I made became my favorite sauce for spaghetti compared to the special sauce for spaghetti that I usually buy at the supermarket. My husband also agrees with that.

Usually my husband doesn't like spaghetti served in restaurants because the type of sauce used doesn't suit our tastes. I feel happy that my food can win my husband's heart. ❤️

Indeed, the tomato sauce that we usually eat in restaurants or the tomato sauce from spaghetti packages is typical of tomato sourness. Meanwhile, my husband's tongue and my tongue are used to spicy sauces.

So, I just need to add chili paste to the tomato paste that I made. It was a brilliant idea to make us love spaghetti.

I hope you enjoy my version of the spaghetti recipe for a simple dinner, which is filling and healthy. Anyway, I use wheat spaghetti for healthier option. You can use any type of spaghetti as well.

As a note, you can use more tomatoes or add more if you want more gravy. Serve the spaghetti immediately once the spaghetti is mixed with the tomato sauce. The spaghetti will quickly absorb the sauce which will make the spaghetti dry.

CHOPPED TOFU TO REPLACE MINCED MEAT

Lately, I often use chopped tofu to replace the texture of scrambled eggs or minced meat.

So, for this recipe I used chopped tofu to replace the minced meat that is usually found in spaghetti sauce.

THE INGREDIENTS

BA978126-A516-4807-A235-DB2B09A8ED18.jpeg

  • 150 grams of spaghetti
  • 2 tomatoes
  • 5 small cloves of red onion
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 2 stalks of celery
  • 2 blocks of tofu or 1/2 of chopped tofu
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground pepper

COOKING INSTRUCTIONS

STEP 1

Boil the spaghetti according to the instructions on the spaghetti packaging. Usually the cooking time is adjusted to the type of spaghetti to avoid the texture becoming too soft or still hard.

I used 10 minutes for the spaghetti's chewy texture to suit my taste.

STEP 2

Make tomato sauce by mixing tomatoes, red onion and garlic. Blend them until evenly mixed.

In this step I use traditional tools for pounding tomatoes, garlic and red onions. Also I added red chili puree. Chili puree plays an important role in making tomato sauce suitable for my taste buds.

STEP 3

Heat a little oil, then add chopped tofu. Make sure no water from the tofu gets into the cooking pot. Continue stirring until the chopped tofu changes color slightly.

STEP 4

Add tomato sauce. Stir well until the tomato sauce is cooked. Add salt and pepper.

STEP 5

In the final step, add boiled spaghetti and chopped celery. Mix well and remove.

I served spaghetti with tomato sauce sprinkled with chili flakes and celery. You can also add fried onions for extra flavor.

What do you think about my version of the spaghetti recipe which uses homemade tomato sauce? So far, this is my favorite spaghetti recipe ❤️❤️❤️

Hello, everything looks very tasty, I already want to make some spaghetti with tomato sauce, if it is very expensive, I did not know that in your country it is so expensive, here in Venezuela a kilo of spaghetti can cost around $1.2, my wife usually makes that kind of tomato sauces but adding onion and a little oregano.

This looks good. The homemade sauce recipe looks so delicious.

Spaghetti is kind of the opposite here it's very affordable. It's served on many tables especially those with large families who have to stick to a specific budget. The price of spaghetti (off brand) is less than half of what you pay there. I can get 1lb (453 grams) worth for around a dollar. I have spaghetti a lot, haha. Now the sauce is more especially the brand name ones. So your recipe is very beneficial to give a try 😁

I think tofu is a must for you, chef. It must give everything so much flavor that you prefer it in many dishes. Or is that what makes your recipes special? 😂😂

Healthy spaghetti? Why not! Yes to this one! Spaghetti in homemade sauce must be a lot delicious and saucy compared with commercial tomato sauce. Your ingredients are also very healthy!

That very red sauce is totally tempting and prepared with a perfect selection of tomatoes I have no doubt that it is as delicious as it looks, or maybe even more so.

It looks great! The thing I don't like about many sauces with tomato is that sugar is added. I don't know why people seem to have to add sugar here in the United States, because it tastes like you're eating candy. I want to taste the tomato! After all, it's my favorite fruit!

Maybe they add many sugar because the tomatoes are sour. So needed to add sugar.

That's why I can't use tomato sauce from those product 😅 yeah better to make our own sauces
Thanks for stopping by ❤️

I think people here in the US just have learned to like too many sweet things. I have purchased some sauces that don't have sugar, and they were good. But most are very sweet with added sugar.
