Hazy days due to the temperature in my city

Greetings, dear friends. I hope you're enjoying summer wherever you are. I, for one, am here to tell you that here in Barrancabermeja, Santander, Colombia, where I live, it feels like it's always summer. The days are extremely hot. In fact, both at home and at the office where I work, we have air conditioning, and from at least noon until 5:00 p.m., these units simply don't cool as they should, as they're completely overwhelmed by the high temperatures.

The thing is, this area doesn't have the four typical seasons of other regions. Here, we simply distinguish between rainy and dry seasons, although, honestly, there are far more dry seasons than rainy ones; I can assure you of that. Yesterday I was blown away, because it was a super, super hot day. The temperature reached 35 degrees Celsius, with a heat index of 41. Today it climbed to 36 degrees, with a heat index of 44, and tomorrow they're forecasting up to 47 degrees with a heat index. How awful! Folks, the heat is really wreaking havoc around here, and it's affecting those of us who have to work a few hours a day outdoors quite a bit.

That was my experience yesterday when I had to do some work outside the office, in the materials yard. The glare was intense; just ten minutes in the sun felt like spending the whole day sunbathing at the beach. I even managed to take some pictures from inside the office to show you how the sunlight streams through the windows, which has forced me to move my desk to a corner to avoid those annoying rays. In fact, I had to improvise with some small PVC sheets to make a roof for my motorcycle because I don't have anywhere to protect it from the sun at my workplace.

This is where planting trees becomes important. Although on some occasions they may be a little uncomfortable due to the leaves or branches around our houses, the reality is that they help a lot to mitigate these heat waves. For example, the roof of my house is made of metal sheets and, when the sun has already set, you can clearly feel how those sheets begin to release all the heat accumulated during the day. Fortunately, at night the air conditioning in our room works 100%. The truth is that we are going through one of the driest months of the year in this region and, according to the forecasts, rainy days will gradually begin to arrive.

The previous image shows a tree on land adjacent to the company where I work, which at least manages to create a small amount of shade. Finally, I'm sharing this photograph I took from a distance so you can see the intensity of the glare hitting the container, which, despite being furnished as an office, is affected by the intense sunlight.
