Artistic Makeup: Mourning

El duelo es el dolor que vivimos desde la perdida de lo amado, por sentir la muerte a cuestas y aún más que algo muero por dentro. La belleza del dolor, el ahogo que lastima por lo que ya no puedes decir.

Grief is the pain that we live from the loss of what we love, from feeling death on our shoulders and even more that something dies inside. The beauty of pain, the suffocation that hurts because of what you can no longer say.

Proceso | Process

Se inicia aplicando crema hidratante y base de maquillaje en el rostro. Seguido apliqué maquillaje en crema blanco y fui difuminando con una brocha, desde la frente hasta debajo de los pómulos. Luego con pintura negra difuminé el contorno superior. Esta base para la piel blanquecina representa la frialdad que llega con el duelo.

I started by applying moisturizer and foundation to the face. Then I applied white cream foundation and blended it with a brush, from the forehead to under the cheekbones. Then with black paint I blurred the upper contour. This base for the whitish skin represents the coldness that comes with mourning.

En la mejilla izquierda dibujé una rosa, representante de la sutil belleza del dolor. Fui rellenando con maquillaje en crema gris, usé blanco para las zonas de luz y negro para las zonas de sombra, siempre difuminando.

On the left cheek I drew a rose, representative of the subtle beauty of pain. I filled in with gray cream makeup, using white for the light areas and black for the shadow areas, always blurring.

Del otro lado del rostro, maquillé una calavera, que representa la muerte a cuestas. Primero dibujé las zonas vacías, ojos y mejilla, para luego rellenar con maquillaje en crema negro. Seguidamente, definí los dientes y difuminé en lo que representará los huesos de la cara.

On the other side of the face, I made up a skull, which represents death on my back. I first drew the empty areas, eyes and cheek, and then filled in with black cream makeup. Next, I defined the teeth and blurred in what will represent the bones of the face.

Para el lado del doliente, maquillé los ojos haciendo un delineado en el párpado inferior con sombra color vino, con el mismo tono difuminé la cuenca del párpado superior y el lagrimal, y en el párpado superior apliqué sombra color salmón. Y apliqué máscara de pestañas. Los labios los maquillé con labial mate vinotinto.

For the mourner's side, I made up the eyes by lining the lower eyelid with wine-colored shadow, with the same shade I blurred the upper eyelid socket and the tear trough, and on the upper eyelid I applied salmon-colored shadow. And I applied mascara. The lips were made up with vinotint matte lipstick.

Para complementar el diseño, realicé un sombreado a la rosa y maquillé un alambre de púas entorchado en el cuello lo que simboliza el dolor que ahoga, por lo no dicho, por los recuerdos. Las púas fueron pintadas con maquillaje en crema gris y plateado, delineado en negro, y sombra roja difuminada en la punta de las púas.

To complement the design, I shaded the rose and made up a barbed wire twisted on the neck symbolizing the pain that suffocates, the unsaid, the memories. The barbs were painted with gray and silver cream makeup, black eyeliner, and red shadow smudged on the tip of the barbs.
