Dark night, and suddenly the siren sounded, we ran in panic to the cold basement. Bombs fell, and the earth shook for hours. Dawn broke; the horror was real. The siren still sounded and was confused with the women's cries. With crestfallen heads, we made our way out of Ukraine.
