Vuelve la angustia y la oleada N° perdi la cuenta/ Alergia a la vista

Muy buenos días mis queridos mamis y papis de Motherhood deseo se encuentren muy bien disfrutando de cada etapa de esta hermosa locura llamada maternidad o en su efecto paternidad.

Hoy quisiera compartir un problema de salud publica que me esta afectando directamente a mi familia y a mi en especial a mi hija Ámbar y es que en toda la costa de Paria en el Estado Sucre-Venezuela ha existido una especie de Mariposa o palometa que habita en los manglares de la zona anteriormente mencionada y que por años se había tenido control en su propagación, a mis 32 años difícilmente recuerdo haber vivido dos o tres episodios de oleadas de estas palometas en mi infancia o juventud en comparación con los últimos 3 años donde ya he perdido la cuenta de las reapariciones solo en este año en curso. El hecho es que esta peculiar mariposa cuenta con espículas urticantes propias de esta mariposa nocturna, genera reacciones alérgicas y diversas dermatitis en los pobladores, pues si! es nocturna lo que significa que las luces que son amantes de las luces eléctricas nocturnas, es decir, lamparas, alumbrado publico, e incluso las luces de los carros, en algunas zonas como en yaguaraparo siendo la población mas cercana de los manglares los habitantes alegan que ni siquiera pueden ver televisión de noche pues la luz que emite este artefacto también llama la atención de la palometa peluda como es conocida coloquialmente.

Mientras en la noche sale Hylesia metabus mejor conocida como palometa peluda en su vuelo va desprendiendo su pelaje a gran escala afectando directamente en la piel de los afectados pero el problema no solo se soluciona apagando las luces si no que en el día se puede apreciar la infestación en las calles y que para los alérgicos es desesperante pues la erupción de la piel es muy fuerte y la comezón insoportable. Justo ayer mientras trabajaba recibí una llamada de mi madre para decirme que debía comprar mas antialérgicos para Ámbar pues se había brotado ya que la noche anterior habían reaparecido una vez mas las palometas y el ambiente estaba contaminado.

Today I would like to share a public health problem that is directly affecting me and my family, especially my daughter Amber, and that is that in the entire coast of Paria in the State of Sucre-Venezuela there has been a species of butterfly or palometa that inhabits the mangroves of the area mentioned above and that for years had been controlled in its spread, At 32 years old, I hardly remember having lived two or three episodes of waves of these palometas in my childhood or youth in comparison with the last 3 years where I have already lost count of the reappearances only in this current year. The fact is that this peculiar butterfly has urticant spicules typical of this nocturnal butterfly, it generates allergic reactions and diverse dermatitis in the inhabitants, because yes! It is nocturnal which means that the lights that are lovers of night electric lights, that is to say, lamps, public lighting, and even the lights of the cars, in some zones like in yaguaraparo being the closest population of the mangroves the inhabitants allege that they cannot even see television at night because the light that emits this artifact also calls the attention of the hairy dove as it is known colloquially.

While at night Hylesia metabus, better known as the hairy pigeon, flies out and sheds its fur on a large scale, directly affecting the skin of those affected, but the problem is not only solved by turning off the lights, but during the day the infestation can be seen in the streets and for those allergic to it, it is desperate because the skin rash is very strong and the itching is unbearable. Just yesterday while I was working I received a call from my mother to tell me that I should buy more allergy medicine for Amber because she had broken out since the night before the pigeons had reappeared once again and the environment was contaminated.

Al llegar a casa me encontré a Ámbar durmiendo su siesta del medio día pero se podía notar la inflamación en su piel, mi preocupación se intensifico al ver que la erupción la tenia hasta su rostro, esta vez el antialérgico no hizo tanto efecto de inmediato y ver a mi niña inquieta rascándose, llorando por momentos aumentaba mi preocupación, por su parte su papa tuvo que limpiar toda la casa con agua y detergente en polvo mientras yo activando mi modo mama protectora pase toda la tarde con ella untando alcohol antiséptico y talco para tratar de bajar un poco la erupción y su incomodidad.

When I got home I found Ámbar sleeping her mid-day nap but you could notice the inflammation on her skin, my concern intensified when I saw that the rash was all the way to her face, this time the anti-allergy medicine did not have as much effect immediately and seeing my restless girl scratching herself, crying at times increased my concern, for her part her father had to clean the whole house with water and powdered detergent while I activated my protective mom mode, I spent the whole afternoon with her spreading antiseptic alcohol and talcum powder to try to reduce the rash and its discomfort a little.

Esta situacion es dificil ya que vivimos en sosobra pues Ambar es la unica alergica y aun sin tener un contacto directo con la palometa se intoxica rapidamente, tanto su papa como yo tenemos que limpiar todo, tuvimos que apagar todas las luces de la casa desde bien temprano y estar dentro de casa alumbrando con linternas pues nuestro hogar no esta del todo construido y las palometas pueden acceder con facilidad si estan las luces encendidas.

This situation is difficult since we live in poverty because Ambar is the only one allergic and even without having direct contact with the pomfret she quickly becomes intoxicated, both her father and I have to clean everything, we had to turn off all the lights in the house right away early and be inside the house lighting with flashlights because our home is not completely built and the palometas can easily access if the lights are on.

Un problema de salud publica y ambiental que ha venido empeorando con el paso de los años y la poca inversion en investigacion para evitar la proliferacion y expancion de la larva que produce la palometa peluda, de quien es la culpa? dependiendo del punto de vista con el que se mire el problema pues se escucha de los aportes economicos que presuntamente el gobierno ha hecho para este problema, el hecho es que no se ha hecho lo suficiente y lamentablemente estamos viviendo a oscuras y a fuerza de antialergicos, uguentos, mentol, talcos u otros para evitar que el contacto con la palometa no nos afecte tanto.

Mientras esta nueva ola pase, sese, o se minimice debo estar preparada para resguardar a mi niña de esta palometa y su ambiente contaminado. Lamentablemente debemos adaptarnos a esta realidad y convivir con ella hasta que Dios quiera. Por lo pronto en mi hogar debemos hacer frente en defensa de la salud de nuestra pequeña.
