Maracaibo Lake

My hometown: Maracaibo, has a large lake of 13,210 km2 is a coastal lake, has a connection with the Gulf of Venezuela located in the Caribbean Sea. Lake Maracaibo or as our ancestors called it: Coquivacoa.

Mi ciudad natal: Maracaibo, tiene un gran lago de 13.210 Km2 es un lago costero, tiene conexión con el Golfo de Venezuela ubicado en el Mar Caribe. El Lago de Maracaibo o como lo llamaban nuestros ancestros: Coquivacoa.

Recently I was visiting my Maracaibo with my children and my husband and we strolled for a while along the Vereda del Lago, the main recreational area that the city has on the shores of the lake.

I took these pictures while we were enjoying the sunset and the humid breeze.

Hace poco estuve de visita en mi Maracaibo con mis hijos y mi esposo y paseamos un rato por la Vereda del Lago, el principal espacio de esparcimiento que tiene la ciudad a orillas del lago.

Tomé estas fotografías mientras disfrutábamos el atardecer y la brisa húmeda que allí se respira.

It was a great gift that at that moment the fishermen were doing their work so close to be able to photograph them.

Fue un gran regalo que en ese momento los pescadores realizarán su faena tan cerca para poder fotografiarlos.
Algunas de estas fotos ya las compartí en mi post sobre nuestro viaje por carretera a Maracaibo.

Pero en esta oportunidad prepare este post para hacer homenaje a nuestro inmenso lago que es el centro de todo el estado Zulia y que posee un grandioso puente que une la costa oriental con la costa occidental del estado a través de un puente de concreto armado de 8,6 Km de largo que este mes cumplió 60 años.

Unfortunately, due to all the industrial oil activity since the beginning of the 20th century the lake is already very polluted and not enough efforts have been made for its rescue and conservation, but this is a hope that we still have to achieve the decontamination of the lake.

Lamentablemente, debido a toda la actividad industrial petrolera desde inicios del siglo XX el lago ya está muy contaminado y no se han realizado los esfuerzos suficientes para su rescate y conservación esto es una esperanza que aún tenemos de lograr la descontaminación del lago.

I hope to return very soon to receive the rays of the bright sun in the hottest city of Venezuela and open myself to the sea to the north thrown by the lake of Maracaibo.

Espero volver muy pronto a recibir los rayos del brillante sol en la ciudad más calurosa de Venezuela y abrirme al mar hacia el norte arrojada por el lago de Maracaibo.
