The aviation workers have been asking for better working conditions for years now with the government and airline owners/operators making promises without fulfilling any.

These have lingered for years and most times the aviation workers will threaten to down tools to press home their demands. Most times they will be persuaded to reconsider their stands owing to how important their services are to both the image of the country and the citizens at large.

But as years go by the situation of things keep deteriorating. Recently, the airline owners and the government offered to make aviation fuel more affordable by subsidizing the price in the market. This was hailed by both the players in the sector and air travellers as it will reduce their flight ticket fares.

But the workers were actually asking for better pay and good working environment. They threatened to go on a nationwide strike since their salaries were not increased by 50% to cushion the effects of high inflation in the country.

A meeting was summoned with both the government and airline operators in full attendance. During the said meeting an employee suggested a gradual increase in their salary as according to him, "the nation is just recuperating from a divastating recession".

There was a sudden uproar in the house as his colleagues shouted him down. "Why did he have to propose that"? They kept shouting. It took the intervention of security agents to quiten and separate those who were almost throwing fists and blows at each other.

It was at that juncture that the meeting was abruptly brought to a close without any formal agreement reached between the parties.
