Rock city of Petra
The rock city of Petra once a forgotten ruined site, in what is now Jordan, was the capital of the Nabataean Empire in ancient times. No other place in Jordan is as famous as the ancient rock city of Petra. The more than 2000 years old city belongs to the new seven wonders of the world and is visited by many tourists, has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985. The others sex wonders are Chichen Itza, Great Wall of China, Christo Redentor, Colosseum, Machu Picchu, Taj Mahal.
Did you know that the name Petra, the feminine form of Peter comes from the ancient Greek word "petros", which translated means "the rock" and "the stone".

You can pay cash or with credit card. A day ticket costs 50 JD about 70 CHF. This makes Petra one of the most expensive sights world Wonder. The driving time with a rental car from Amman to Petra is about 240 km along the Desert Highway can be reached in about 3-4 hours.
