Fuelling life
My partner and I spend an average of $4,500 on fuel a year. This includes day to day running around, getting to work and typical weekend activities. It does not include trips away to distant locations which increases the cost of fuel dramatically; Driving the 3600km to round trip to Sydney for instance. You can see the cost of fuel here in the image. On this particular occasion I fuelled with Vortex 95 although we use diesel in our other vehicle and have paid as much as $1.85 for it. A typical refuel of my diesel vehicle is $210 per tank.
It's a lot of money isn't it? $4,500 a year? $12.30 a day!
There's way's to reduce the expenditure of course, walking, push bikes, motor bikes, scooters and the like and of course strategic planning around streamlining trips to incorporate multiple stops in the one trip rather than going in and out. However sometimes it's not as easy as that in our busy lifestyles. Of course, a hybrid or electric vehicle would work also right?
I have a motor bike license and love riding bikes however riding one for work won't work for me. My partner also says it's too dangerous to ride these days and I tend to agree. we work hard to ensure our trips are efficient as far as the route and purpose goes though and I believe we maximise the fuel usage however it's still a lot of money.
I wonder how long it will be before electric vehicles become more mainstream and how much of a saving using one will make over a ten year period when compared with a fossil-fuelled vehicle.
Anyway, I better head off...I have to drive somewhere in my gas-guzzling automobile.

I've never owned a hybrid however it's going that way I think...There's a few I have my eye on.
I would like to go all-electric at some point, but it is still too expensive here. In other Nordic countries they off better incentives for it.
I heard Sweden are going to be all-electric by 2025? I could be wrong...
They are pushing pretty hard but it is a tall order. I have done the basic math for Finland, essentially all new cars could be electric and replace the fleet in the next decade and, it would save about 4 billion in oil a year and generate income locally in electricity production.
