Computing life without computers
I'm fortunate to have a rather good memory; It's not eidetic, just that I have a knack for recalling details and moments from my past vividly. It's a curse sometimes because, like most people, there's memories I would prefer to forget however for those memories I have a special compartment in my brain where they get locked away.
One thing I recall fondly, and often passionately miss, is life without a computer.
I can recall the first one I purchased, an Amiga 500, which, by today's standards, was a very basic and extremely limited, unit. I began to learn how to use it and slowly progressed from a computer novice to a...Well, I'm still somewhat of a novice I'm afraid, although I know more than I did at that stage.
I know that computers have revolutionised our lives and made many tasks easier however I had a perfectly good life pre-computer and despite certain things taking longer or not being quite as easy to accomplish, life was enjoyable. I certainly spent less time looking at a keyboard than I do now...I used to look out upon the world and engage more, with people, the world in general and my own thoughts...I still do but it's different. It almost feels like I'm never alone through having access to anything and everything through my computer.
The advent of the smart phone changed things once more and now we all carry a computer around in our in our pockets, a computer infinitely more powerful than my Amiga 500...I wonder what is in store in the next 30 years.
Computers make my life easier, like most people, and to be honest it would be difficult to imagine life without one...Although I don't just have one, I have many. MacBook, iPad, iPhone, Samsung S9...And of course all the computers I don't see like the 50 or so that run my vehicle (yes, modern cars contain multiple computers...Somewhere between 30 and 100 of them depending on the level of car.) Could we do without them; Computers? No, not if our current standard of living needs to be maintained for sure.
I try and limit my computer usage and balance it out with computer-free time meaning no phone or laptop usage. I also make a point of leaving my mobile phone home sometimes when I go out. Sounds easy to do but give it a try, see how you go. It takes practice, and effort too.
Many here probably don't recall life without a computer, the internet or smart phone and could probably not imagine how life could possibly exist without them however the reality is that it did. It was a good life too, simpler. How has computers changed your life, if you are old enough to recall life without them and if not how do you think you would cope without a computer or smart device these days?
Image is the Apple keyboard of my obsolete Apple iMac purchased in 2008 - Now a useless piece of junk.
I remember life without computers. The only thing if I did not have one now life would most likely be harder as the world is now setup for them.

Yes, it is set up for computers now and they handle so many fundamental aspects of life. Thinking for oneself is so overrated.
