The Off Put Challenge ~ Splinterlands X Social Media Challenge
Hello, splinter-folks. I hope you all are doing well.
Today, I will share a battle that portrays why there should be some basic rules when playing in the Wild Leagues. The monsters and summoners release their abilities with nothing holding back, which makes the battle unpredictable. Amid doubt and uneasiness, the best strategist won.
Without further ado, let's begin!
Battle Conditions
The mana cap is 44 and all the summoners are available.
Battle Rules:-
- Standard: No change to standard gameplay or mechanics.
Keeping the high mana cap, available summoners, and battle rules in mind, I decided to choose the summoner that would give me an edge over my opposition regardless of what he chose. A summoner with high-level monsters and a good ability of its own, the death summoner.
Battle Details
Let's start the deck deconstruction from my side:
Summoner: Thaddius Brood(Ability: Decrease in HP and Magic damage by 1 for all enemy units)(Level 5).
Tank: Cursed Windeku(Ability: Thorns, Heal).
Melee Attacker: Arachne Thug(Ability: Reach, Trample).
Magic Attacker: Ancient Lich(Ability: Leech).
Ranged Attackers: Zyriel(Ability: Weapons Training, Leech, Divine Shield), Dhampir Stalker(Ability: Aim True, Deathblow), Lira The Dark(Ability: Opportunity).
My strategy was to attack from the front while aiming for their weakest link. That is why I chose a tank that would self-heal and afflict thorns damage when attacked physically. To cause further damage, I chose Thug to ensure a good blow to his tank. I used Lich after a long time because of its amazing ability of sapping away the tank's life. At the end of my deck, I used a super high damage combo of 3 ranged attackers, each with distinct ability. The first had a shield and could leech away HP from the targets it hit, the second one's damage was a guarantee, and the last one would aim for the monster with the lowest HP in the enemy deck.
My overall damage per round is 22 with 3 HP healing and 4 HP leeching.
Now for the opposition's turn:
Summoner: Helios Matriarch(Ability: Increase in speed by 1 for all ally monsters and grants the usage of 1 Gladiator unit)(Level 1).
Tank: Ulundun Overseer(Ability: Flank).
Melee Attacker: Coastal Sentry(Ability: Double Strike).
Ranged Attackers: Swamp Spitter(Ability: Repair), Venari Marksrat(Ability: Martyr).
Magic Attacker: Riverboat Captain(Ability: Blast).
His strategy was to go on an onslaught from the front. That is why he chose a tank that can take high damage. That would help the Sentry survive longer before it comes to the tank's position. He used a ranged attacker with the repair ability to further his tank's survivability. He anticipated incoming damage from the back. So, he used a ranged attacker with the martyr ability, which would give his magic attacker with the blast ability cause more damage.
His overall damage per round is 12. After his Marksrat fell, his overall damage per round is 13 damage per round.
Major Events
The first monster to fall was his Marksrat. That granted his Captain the usual damage after he had been nerfed twice by my tank.
Near the end of the round, my tank fell thanks to his Riverboat Captain.
The third monster was his Sentry even though it was behind the tank thanks to my Lira The Dark in the first half of the round.
In the final half of the round, his tank fell and his ranged attacker took its place. Thus, his overall damage was cut to 3.
In the first half of the round, his units took out my last melee attacker making it a 1 v 4.
In the second third of the round, his ranged attacker fell and now it was down to his final magic attacker.
At the end of the round, Zyriel reaped its HP, so I claimed victory.
Results
The first mistake he made was putting too much into his tank and the supporting attacker behind it. That way, he was left with a little chunk of mana to cover the deck. Furthermore, he did not use a Gladiator unit even though he had the ability to, so his overall damage remained almost half of mine. Maybe, instead of that tank, an attacking one with low mana and redistributing it, putting more monsters in the backlines might've earned him the victory.
God the immensity of that dragon is colossal, good card game!
