Cthulu VS Dragon ~Earthquake | Splinterlands ~ Battle Mage Secrets

Today, I pulled a battle from the forgotten archives(drafts) where I had used a monster that no longer exists and boy was that monster amazing. It was both low for rent and a great damage dealer.

The mana cap was 30. There were 5 summoners: Fire, Nature, Life, Death, and Dragon. For such mana and summoner choices, usually a good Life or Death is the way to win for me.

Battle rules:

  • Earthquake: Non-flying monster takes 2 damage at the end of every round.

Let's start from my side.

Summoner: Thaddius Brood(Ability: Decrease in HP and magic damage by 1 for all enemy monsters).

Tank: Cursed Windeku(Ability: Thorns).

Melee attackers: Arachne Thug(Ability: Reach).
Ranged attackers: Venari Marksrat(Ability: Martyr).
Magic attackers: Cthullu(Ability: Cripple, Flying).

My strategy was to use my tank as a strong wall able to hold off frontal attacks while the Marksrat would give me the Martyr effect on both Cthulhu and Arachne Thug. That way, my overall attack, speed, and HP increase by 2.

My initial damage output is 9. Adding in the damage from thorns and adjusting the martyr effect it comes to 12 damage per round.


Now, for the opposition's turn:

Summoner: Helios Matriarch(Ability: Increase in speed to all ally monsters and ability to summon one gladiator monster).

Tank: Uriel The Purifier(Ability: Flying, Recharge).

Magic attackers: Void Dragon(Ability: Flying, Void), Adelade Brightwing(Ability: Flying, Repair).
Non-attackers: Kra'ar Xoc(Ability: Scavenger).

His strategy was to eliminate the enemy tank with a huge blow with his tank that would do 3x the damage in every other round thanks to his ability. Almost all his monsters had the Flying ability, that way he ensured that he wouldn't get his overall HP down unnecessarily.

His overall damage per round is 3. Adding in the damage from his tank, it comes to 12 damage per even-numbered round.

The first earthquake passes and my Marksrat gives the martyr ability to his adjacent monsters.

His tank deleted my mine as it comes to a 3 v 2. Things looking a little bleak since my overall attack was down to 8 while he was at 11 for every even-numbered round.

His tank fell swiftly and my Cthulu was still going strong with no HP loss.

Cthulu was now soloing 2 monsters. The monsters at the tank's position had the void ability which cuts down magic damage received in half. Not looking good for Cthulu.

At the start of the 6th round, one of his monsters fell and finally, it turned into a surefire victory.

And, at the start of the 7th round, I finally got the sweet victory.

Results

Even though only one of my monsters had the flying ability, I made sure to get other monsters with high HP. That way the survivability of the entire troop increases. He sacrificed his damage-dealing monsters and used monsters that had the flying ability but did little damage. That way, his loss was but a matter of time.
