Unlike most people, who avoided selling, I actually enjoyed it.
From my first job at a hotel, I learned an important lesson: when you sell something, you should charge a fair price that reflects the value of your time and effort. Many vendors sold their goods too cheaply, but I preferred to walk farther to find customers who appreciated quality and were willing to pay for it.
The most popular items were empanadas and tamales. My mother gave them to me at a low cost, I mean she gave a cheap price and I kept the difference. Whenever we needed something—like a new pair of shoes—her worried expression, which once seemed to say it was impossible, would light up with joy when I pulled out my savings.
Nowadays, Mexico has changed so much that I can hardly recognize it. I struggle to understand the mindset of many criminals today.
That's a great story—sounds like you built real self-discipline early on, turning small hustles into something meaningful for your family. Explains why today's crime mindset feels so off to you
