If the kids soak the oreo cookie in milk, I soak it in coffee. Hot, steaming, bitter coffee for a semi-sweet blend. Yesterday was another busy day at the office. All afternoon I was thinking about buying some cookies before I got home; I have few tastes when it comes to treats, although I have to admit that even the most skeptical (like me) put aside their dietary restrictions to delight their mouths with new flavors. My office mates had said that chocolate cookies taste glorious when combined with coffee. How true was that? One thing I was sure of: I was going to check it out as soon as possible.

Durante toda la tarde anduve pensando en comprar unas galletas antes de llegar a casa; soy de pocos gustos cuando de golosinas se trata, aunque he de admitir que hasta los más escépticos (como yo) hacen a un lado sus restricciones alimenticias para deleitar la boca con nuevos sabores. Mis compañeros de oficina habían dicho que las galletas de chocolate tienen un sabor glorioso cuando las combinan con café. ¿Qué de cierto tenía todo aquello? De alguna cosa estaba seguro: iba a comprobarlo.

I slipped out of work earlier than usual, anxious to caress a few cookies with coffee in my mouth. I didn't resist and bought some chocolate-filled vanilla cookies, knowing that the combination of caffeine and cocoa butter could be a disaster. But my cravings are not strict, much less judgmental; in other words, I savor whatever I can eat, as long as there is coffee to pass the bites. What can I tell you? Coffee makes everything taste delicious, even the strangest snacks. So, proud of my purchase, I brewed coffee and eagerly set out to savor the fruit of my crazy co-workers' crazy recipes.

Me esfumé del trabajo más temprano que de costumbre, ansioso por acariciar unas cuantas galletas con café en mi boca. No me resistí y compré unas galletas de vainilla rellenas de chocolate, a sabiendas de que la combinación entre la cafeína y el cacao en crema podía ser un desastre. Pero mis antojos no son estrictos, ni mucho menos criticones; o sea, saboreo lo que se pueda comer, siempre y cuando haya café para pasar los bocados. ¿Qué les puedo decir? El café hace que todo sepa delicioso, incluso los aperitivos más extraños. Entonces, orgulloso de mi compra, preparé café y, ansioso, me dispuse a saborear el fruto de las alocadas recetas de mis alocados compañeros de trabajo.

The coffee was thick and strong, just the way I like it; I added some bread crumbs to alleviate the sweetness and bitterness. I felt like a child anxiously awaiting his first slice of cake. I wanted it to be something nice, so I took pains to carefully detail the cookies I was about to douse with the steaming caffeine in my cup. Still, my fear was evident: I didn't want to ruin my afternoon coffee, much less by inventing new flavors. The challenge was served, what could I do? It was time for the big truth.

El café estaba espeso y recio, como a mí me gusta; le agregué unas migajas de pan para aliviar el dulce y el amargo. Me sentía como un niño que espera ansiosamente su primera rebanada de pastel. Quería que fuera algo bonito, por lo que me esmeré en detallar cuidadosamente las galletas que estaba a punto de empapar con la cafeína humeante en mi tasa. Aun así, mi miedo era evidente: yo no deseaba arruinar mi café de las tardes, y mucho menos por andar inventado sabores nuevos. El desafío estaba servido, ¿qué podía hacer? Era momento de la gran verdad.

I won't lie to you: first I drank my coffee without cookies hahaha. It was thick, more bitter than sweet; something told me that, when I dipped the cookies in the coffee, the flavors were going to be extinguished; it's no secret that sweetness can be annoying, or at least I think so. I first thought of my grandmother's sayings: "if you've already chosen a path, then don't look back and walk". It's not a decaffeinated drama, it's just that I consider coffee as a glorious beverage to be respected. Am I the only one who thinks like that?

No les mentiré: primero bebí mi café sin galletas jajaja. Estaba espeso, más amargo que dulce; algo me decía que, al mojar las galletas con el café, los sabores iban a extinguirse; para nadie es un secreto que lo dulce puede ser fastidioso, o al menos yo lo creo. Pensé por primera vez en los refranes de mi abuela: “si ya elegiste un camino, entonces no mires atrás y camina”. No es un drama descafeinado, es que considero al café como una bebida gloriosa a la que hay que guardarle respeto. ¿Soy el único que piensa así?

Be that as it may, I have respect for coffee, because that bitter, hot cup is what helps me not to go crazy in my long work sessions. So, chocolate and coffee are a good match? I like the mystery, and I like the doubt to prevail. I can only tell you that you should check it out: you will be pleasantly surprised, I promise. What I do recommend is that you do not soak the cookies in the coffee if they are filled with chocolate cream. The best thing to do is to drink the coffee and then bite into the cookie, it's fantastic! At least that's the way I like it, but you can try it the other way; everyone has their own way of combining things ;-)

Sea como sea, le guardo respeto al café, pues esa tasita amarga y caliente es la que me ayuda a no enloquecer en mis largas sesiones de trabajo. Entonces, ¿Chocolate y café son una buena pareja? Me gusta el misterio, y que la duda prevalezca. Solo les puedo decir que deben comprobarlo: encontrarán una agradable sorpresa, se los prometo. Lo que si les recomiendo es que no empapen las galletas con el café si éstas están rellenas con crema de chocolate. Lo más adecuado es beber café y luego morder la galleta, ¡es sumamente fantástico! Al menos así me gusta a mí, pero puedes probar de la otra forma; cada quien tiene su propia formar de combinar las cosas ;-)

The rest of the evening was wonderful; I combined a couple of ballads with my cookie intake with coffee. That only happens when caffeine is your friend: it helps you, gives you strength, relaxes you and complements your life. What can I tell you? I love my life, I love coffee, and I love that coffee goes with everything. I will continue to venture into the paths of caffeine to bring you new flavors. And now that I think about it I have to ask you:

El resto de la noche fue maravillosa; combiné un par de baladas con mi ingesta de galletas con café. Eso solo ocurre cuando la cafeína es tu amiga: te ayuda, te da fuerzas, te relaja y complementa tu vida. ¿Qué les puedo decir? Amo mi vida, amo el café, y adoro que el café combine con todo.
