Visit to Forte Marghera, a nineteenth-century fortress - Venice - Discovering Italy with alequandro!

In today's post I will take you to Forte Marghera, a nineteenth-century fortress 15 minutes from Venice.

I have known this fort for many years, but I had not visited it for a long time.

Nel post di oggi vi porto al forte Marghera, una fortezza ottocentesca a 15 minuti da Venezia.

Questo forte lo conosco da molti anni, però era da molto tempo che non lo visitavo.

Una volta era

Once an Italian army barracks were active.

Today there are many disused buildings but a large area of ​​this fort is used for cultural initiatives that are giving new life to this really interesting place.

Oggi ci sono molti edifici in disuso però una grande area di questo forte è utilizzato per iniziative culturali che stanno dando nuova vita a questo luogo davvero interessante.

The fort was part of the entrenched camp of Mestre and of the wider defensive system of the lagoon. A really interesting aspect is that the fort is entirely surrounded by water, in fact a bridge is used to access it.

Il forte era parte del campo trincerato di Mestre e del più ampio sistema difensivo della laguna. Un'aspetto davvero interessante è che il forte è interamente circondato dall'acqua infatti per accedere si utilizza un ponte.

The area of ​​the fort is very large, extends over 48 hectares of surface and was built to defend Venice from attacks which is only 4 km away as the crow flies.

L'area del forte è molto ampia, si estende su 48 ettari di superficie ed è stato realizzato per difendere Venezia dagli attacchi che dista solo 4 km in linea d'aria.

Another aspect that I really like is that inside the fort there are bars and restaurants where you can eat traditional Venetian dishes.

Un altro aspetto che mi piace molto è che dentro al forte ci sono locali e ristoranti dove si posso mangiare piatti della tradizione veneziana.

Also within the area of ​​the fort there is an area managed by volunteers for the care and home of cats that have been abandoned or injured.

To me who really like cats, places like these, I appreciate them very much.

Sempre all'interno dell'area del forte c'è un'area gestita da volontari per la cura e dimora dei gatti che sono stati abbandonati o sono rimasti feriti.

A me che piacciono moltissimo i gatti, posti come questi, li apprezzo moltissimo.

As I walked I was surprised to see this impressive work of art...

This is one of the main structures of the fort. Unfortunately it is abandoned, it would be nice to find a way to reuse it and give a new life to these buildings.

Questa è una delle strutture principali del forte. Purtroppo è abbandonata, sarebbe bello trovare il modo di riutilizzarla e dare una nuova vita a questi edifici.

Right in front of the buildings there is a dock for boats and a large dock that was once used to dock large boats.

Proprio di fronte agli edifici c'è un approdo per le barche e un ampio bacino che una volta veniva usato per attraccare le grandi imbarcazioni.

It was almost lunchtime and we had decided to have lunch at the fort.
So we walked along an avenue lined with warehouses and deposits which unfortunately for the most part are unused.

Era quasi ora di pranzo e avevamo deciso di pranzare al forte.
Abbiamo così camminato lungo un viale costeggiato da magazzini e depositi che purtroppo per la maggior parte sono inutilizzati.

After another bridge there were other buildings, this time administrative.

Superato un altro ponte c'erano altri edifici, questa volta amministrativi.

I forgot to photograph the restaurant where we ate, but it is very nice and as you can see from the photos, you also eat very well!

Mi sono dimenticato di fotografare il ristorante dove abbiamo mangiato, ma è molto carino e come potete vedere dalle foto, si mangia anche molto bene!
