Excursion to the Ogre Bridge, Ospedaletto - Trentino Alto Adige - One of the largest natural bridges in Europe - Discovering Italy with alequandro!

Hi everyone!
Those who follow me know that in the last post I told about the time I went to visit the outside of Castel Ivano.

Well, after visiting the village where the castle is located, I drove 10 minutes until I reached Ospedaletto and parked there where the Ponte dell'Orco path starts.

Chi mi segue sa che nello scorso post ho raccontato di quella volta che sono andato a visitare l'esterno di Castel Ivano.

Beh, dopo aver visitato il borgo dove si trova il castello ho guidato 10 minuti fino a raggiungere la località Ospedaletto e lì ho parcheggiato dove parte il sentiero del Ponte dell'Orco.

There was nobody in the parking lot...perhaps because it was drizzling, but I didn't lose heart and started the excursion.

Nel parcheggio non c'era nessuno...forse perchè piovigginava, ma io non mi sono perso d'animo e ho iniziato l'escursione.

An hour and a half round trip, perfect!
If the weather had worsened I wouldn't have been too isolated.

Un' ora e mezza tra andata e ritorno, perfetto!
Se il meteo avesse peggiorato non sarei stato troppo isolato.

I started walking and step by step I prayed it wouldn't start raining heavily.

In any case, the temperature was perfect, the air was clean, it had a mixed scent between that of the pristine undergrowth and the smell of rain, a pleasant mix.

Ho iniziato a camminare e passo dopo passo pregavo che non iniziasse a piovere forte.

Ad ogni modo la temperatura era perfetta, l'aria era pulita, aveva un profumo misto tra quello del sottobosco incontaminato e l'odore della pioggia, un mix piacevole.

The path is perfectly signposted so it is impossible to go wrong.

Il sentiero è perfettamente segnalato quindi è impossibile sbagliare.

I liked to observe the red color of the wet bark and the intense green color of the foliage, they formed a beautiful composition.

Mi piaceva osservare il colore rosso della corteccia bagnata e il colore verde intenso del fogliame, formavano una bella composizione.

The path is narrow and slightly uphill, sometimes exposed, but nothing dangerous.
Perhaps that day when it was drizzling a little dangerous it was due to the roots that emerge from the ground and which are very slippery when wet.

Il sentiero è stretto e leggermente in salita, a tratti esposto, ma niente di pericoloso.
Forse quel giorno che piovigginava un po' pericoloso lo era per via delle radici che affioravano dal terreno e che sono molto scivolose quando bagnate.

The view is very beautiful, there are many "windows" towards the Valsugana...

The path is well equipped, there are wooden railings and steps that make the experience more complete and safe at the same time.

Il sentiero è è ben attrezzato, ci sono parapetti e scalini di legno che rendono l'esperienza più completa e allo stesso tempo sicura.

Every now and then there are educational signs on the type of fauna and flora that exist in this area.

Ogni tanto ci sono cartelli didattici sul tipo di fauna e flora che ci sono in questo territorio.

The trail is always uphill, but nothing too challenging.
Only going back I had to walk carefully because the wet roots made me risk slipping at least 2-3 times.

Il sentiero è sempre in salita, ma niente di troppo impegnativo.
Solo tornando indietro ho dovuto camminare con cautela perchè le radici bagnate mi hanno fatto rischiare di scivolare almeno 2-3 volte.

I didn't expect it but at one point, in addition to other educational signs, there was a rest area with a table and benches, beautiful!

I was a stone's throw from the ogre bridge and what I was about to see left me speechless!

Mi trovavo a due passi dal ponte dell'orco e quello che stavo per vedere mi ha lasciato a bocca aperta!

After a small climb of wooden steps I found myself under the immense natural stone bridge...

Dopo una piccola salita di scalini di legno mi sono trovato sotto l'immenso ponte di pietra naturale...

The bridge has a perfect span of over 40 meters of span, completely detached from the rock face.
The measurements are impressive: upper floor over 70 meters, width about 4 meters, thickness 12 meters, internal arch about 60 meters, height from the ground below 50 meters.

Il ponte ha un arco perfetto di oltre 40 metri di luce, completamente staccato dalla parete rocciosa.
Le misure sono impressionanti: piano superiore oltre 70 metri, larghezza circa 4 metri, spessore 12 metri, arco interno circa 60 metri, altezza dal suolo sottostante 50 metri.

It was formed by the successive collapses of the vault of a deep cave open towards the outside, due to the karst phenomena that affected the isolated mass of Mount Lefre (1,385 m).

Si è formato per crolli successivi della volta di una profondagrotta aperta verso l'esterno, dovuti ai fenomeni carsici che hanno interessato l'isolata mole del monte Lefre (1.385 m).

As I looked at the majesty of the bridge I noticed a path that led to the top.
It was damp on the ground but I was curious, I wanted to see the bridge from above!

Mentre guardavo la maestosità del ponte mi sono accorto di un sentiero che portava verso la sommità.
Era umido per terra ma ero curioso, volevo vedere il ponte da sopra!

I had reached the level of the bridge.
A small path led right above it.

It was very windy and it was damp on the ground... it's not like me, but I didn't feel like it... I only walked a few meters...

Ero arrivato al livello del ponte.
Un sentierino conduceva proprio sopra di esso.

C'era molto vento e per terra era umido...non è da me, ma non me la sentivo...ho fatto solo qualche metro...

With every step I felt the wind push sideways more and more.
I had a strange feeling, I didn't feel in control of the situation.

Maybe I'm getting old and my spirit of self-preservation has kicked in...the fact is that I haven't had the courage to go any further.

Ad ogni passo sentivo il vento spingere lateralmente sempre di più.
Avevo una sensazione strana, non sentivo il controllo della situazione.

Forse sto invecchiando e il mio spirito di autoconservazione si è attivato...fatto sta che non ho avuto il coraggio di proseguire oltre.

I was a little disappointed in myself, but maybe I've just gotten wiser than I did a few years ago.

Maybe with better weather conditions one day I will feel like crossing this bridge!

Ero un po' deluso di me stesso, ma forse sono solo diventato più saggio rispetto a qualche anno fa.

Magari con condizioni meteo migliori un giorno me la sentierò di attraversare questo ponte!

Going down I realized that the wet ground had made it difficult to walk.
The roots were lethal. I didn't see them and stepping on them meant slipping.

Scendendo mi sono reso conto che il terreno tutto bagnato avevano reso complicato camminare.
Le radici erano letali. Non le vedevo e metterci un piede sopra significava scivolare.
