Calaita Lake - Trentino Alto Adige - Discovering Italy with alequandro!

A couple of weeks ago, it was very hot, I think it was 37 ° C and I wanted to go to a cool place in the mountains, so I remembered that time I was at Calaita lake and without thinking too much I I got into my car and after an hour and a half I was at an altitude of 1600 meters near the lake. Lake Calaita is located in the municipality of Primiero San Martino di Castrozza in Trentino Alto Adige, a region that the more I visit it the more I fall in love.

Un paio di settimane fa, che faceva molto caldo, credo ci fossero 37 °C e avevo voglia di andare in un posto fresco in montagna, così mi è venuto in mente di quella volta che sono stato al lago di Calaita e senza pensarci troppo mi sono messo in auto e dopo un ora e mezza ero a 1600 metri di altitudine presso il lago. Il Lago di Calaita si trova nel comune del Primiero San Martino di Castrozza in Trentino Alto Adige, una regione che più la visito e più mi innamoro.

To go up to Lago di Calaita you have to head towards the Vanoi Valley and when you reach Canal San Bovo you have to turn right and take the provincial road 79.

It is a pleasant stretch of road, you will see small mountain villages, green pastures and beautiful barns.

Along the way you will also find various points with tables and benches where you can stop to relax and eat something packed like I did.

Per salire al Lago di Calaita bisogna dirigersi la Valle del Vanoi e quando si giunge a Canal San Bovo bisogna svoltare a destra e prendere la strada provinciale 79.

E' un tratto di strada piacevole, vedrete piccoli paesi di montagna, verdi pascoli e bellissimi fienili.

Durante la strada trovere anche vari punti con tavoli e panchine dove potrete fermarvi per rilassarvi e mangiare qualcosa al sacco come ho fatto io.

The road runs alongside a stream, so stopping along the way by car is really pleasant and refreshing.

La strada costeggia un torrente, quindi fermarsi lungo il percorso in auto è proprio piacevole e rigenerante.

When you park your car you don't see the lake, the show comes when you go up a small difference in height and approach the hotel.

Quando si parcheggia l'auto non si vede il lago, lo spettacolo arriva quando si risale un piccolo dislivello e ci si avvicina all'albergo.

This lake also suffered from the great drought this year, but the landscape still remains of unique beauty.

Anche questo lago ha accusato la grande siccità di quest'anno, però paesaggio rimane comunque di una bellezza unica.

I honestly thought it was cooler but even at that altitude the heat was felt!

Sinceramente pensavo facesse più fresco ma anche a quell'altitudine il caldo si faceva sentire!

It didn't take me long to decide to start walking towards the saddle where there is an incredible panoramic view.

Non ci ho messo molto a decidere di iniziare a camminare verso la forcella dove c'è una vista panoramica incredibile.

The most beautiful thing about this place, perhaps it is not the lake but the width of the lawn in front of it. The immense meadow is surrounded on the sides by fir woods and the view is directed towards the mountain range of the Pale di San Martino, right towards the saddle I wanted to reach.

La cosa più bella di questo posto, forse non è il lago ma l'ampiezza del prato che ha di fronte. Il prato immenso è circondato ai lati da boschi di abeti e la vista viene indirizzata verso la catena montuosa delle Pale di San Martino, proprio verso la forcella che volevo raggiungere.

The route is all flat, it is also suitable for children.
The first section is on large stones, the second part cuts right in the middle of the lawn.

Il percorso è tutto in piano, è adatto anche ai bambini.
Il primo tratto è su grosse pietre, la seconda parte taglia proprio in mezzo al prato.

The landscape was animated by grazing cows that attracted the attention of visitors looking for some souvenir photos.

Ad animare i paesaggio c'era le mucche al pascolo che attiravano l'attenzione dei visitatori in cerca di qualche foto ricordo.

The sun was occasionally shielded by clouds that foretold rain.

Il sole ogni tanto veniva schermato dalle nuvole che presagivano pioggia.

The wind was picking up, there was thunder in the distance and almost everyone chose to go back to the hotel, but not me!

Si stava alzando il vento, si sentivano tuoni in lontanza e quasi tutti sceglievano di tornare indietro verso l'albergo, ma non io!

The cows were starting to head for the barn too...it wasn't a good sign, but the air was getting cool and I was doing great.

Anche le mucche cominciavano a dirigersi verso la stalla...non era un buon segno, però l'aria stava diventando fresca e io stavo alla grande.

I was walking on the lawn, fresh air on my skin, no man-made sounds, I was alone in a wonderful place it was super pleasant!

Camminavo sul prato, l'aria fresca sulla pelle, nessun suono antropico, ero da solo in un posto meraviglioso era super piacevole!

I ran into a couple of people coming back, the thunder made itself more present.

Ho incrociato un paio di persone che tornavano indietro, i tuoni si facevano più presenti.

By now I had reached the saddle, there was a group of people contemplating the view...

Ormai ero arrivato alla forcella, c'era un gruppo di persone in contemplazione del panorama...

Unfortunately, when I arrived at the viewpoint, the view was not very clear but still impressive.

Quando sono arrivato al belvedere purtroppo la visuale non era nitidissima ma comunque impressionante.

By now I could hear the thunder above my head, I admit that I was a little afraid of being the only vertical element in such a large space!

Ormai sentivo i tuoni sopra la testa, ammetto che un po' avevo timore ad essere l'unico elemento verticale in uno spazio così ampio!

At one point a very cold rain began to fall, so I began to accelerate my pace a lot.

Ad un certo punto è cominciata a scendere una pioggia freddissima, così ho cominciato ad accelerare molto il passo.

When the car was close by, I met a man with some camping chairs who was trying to protect himself under the foliage of the trees, he was getting wet and had his wife waiting for him at the parking lot so I got an idea: why not use the chairs like umbrellas to protect us from the rain ?!

Quando mancava poco all'auto, ho incontrato un uomo con delle sedie da campeggio che cercava di proteggersi sotto le chiome degli alberi, si stava bagnando e aveva la moglie che lo aspettava al parcheggio così mi è venuta un'idea: perchè non usare le sedie come ombrelli per proteggerci dalla pioggia?!

We literally got into our chairs and walked to the parking lot.
It worked, the head and shoulders were dry, the legs and shoes a little less!

Ci siamo letteralmente infilati nelle sedie e abbiamo camminato verso il parcheggio.
Ha funzionato, la testa e le spalle erano asciutte, le gambe e le scarpe un po' meno!

I helped him to put the chairs in the trunk of the car, then when I took shelter in my car, I didn't believe the temperature that the on-board computer marked: 16.5°C! When I left home it was 36°C !!

L'ho aiutato a mettere le sedie nel bagagliaio dell'auto, poi quando mi sono riparato nella mia auto, non credevo alla temperatura che segnava il computer di bordo: 16.5 °C! Quando ero partito da casa c'era una temperatura di 36°C!!

This was a great adventure too, I was looking for some refreshment and I found it!
