A few weeks ago I did a remake of one of my first posts here at Hive in which I talked about my favorite anime openings; at the time I also did a post of my favorite endings (which you can see by clicking here) which honestly was quite meh, first because my catalog of endings wasn’t exactly wide and secondly, I didn't have the same writing skills I have now, reasons why I decided to write a remake of that post. Writing about anime endings is a bit more complicated than openings because I'm one of those people who just after finishing the episode jump to the next one or just skip it, so today I'm going to gather what for me is the crème de la crème regarding music and animation in anime endings and that are simply impossible to skip.

Hace unas semanas hice un remake de uno de mis primeros post aquí en Hive en el que hablaba acerca de mis openings de anime favoritos; en su momento también hice un post de mis endings favoritos (que pueden ver haciendo click aquí) el cuál sinceramente estuvo bastante flojo, primero porque mi catálogo de endings no era precisamente amplio y en segundo lugar pues, no tenía la misma destreza escribiendo que tengo ahorita, razones por las cuales he decido escribir un remake de aquel post. Escribir acerca de los endings de anime es un poco más complicado que con los openings porque yo soy de esos que apenas al terminar el episodio saltan al siguiente o de plano lo quita, por lo que hoy voy a reunir lo que para mí es la crema de la crema con respecto a música y animación en los endings de anime y que simplemente son imposibles de saltar.
Así que sin más preámbulos, ¡comencemos!
#5 - Datte Ashi no Hero - LiSA
Anime: Boku no Hero Academia
I'll open the list with the third ending of Boku no Hero Academia and one which I don't understand why it's not talked about anymore. The whole ending is genius from start to end, so where can I start? On vocals we have the wonderful LiSA (known for her participation in the openings of Sword Art Online and Kimetsu no Yaiba) and who is one of my favorite voices in the medium, I've seen several videos of her singing acapella and the versatility, timbre, intonation, and power of her voice are impressive. The song itself is quite dynamic and moving, something very atypical of the endings since the closing songs usually have a much more melancholic vibe, in fact this song could perfectly be an opening song and I think it's partly thanks to LiSA's own style. But without a doubt what I like the most about this ending is the art and animation as it shows us U.A. Class 1-A in a medieval world in the purest Dungeons and Dragons style, in which our heroes wear armor, wield swords, use magic, and face any number of threats typical of this style. It's a concept that I liked so much that I never once passed on this ending, I even think it should have its own spin-off.
Abriré la lista con el tercer ending de Boku no Hero Academia y uno el cuál no entiendo porque no se habla más de él. Todo el ending es una genialidad de principio a fin, y es qué, ¿por dónde puedo empezar? En la voz tenemos a la maravillosa LiSA (conocida por su participación en los openings de Sword Art Online y Kimetsu no Yaiba) quién es una de mis voces favoritas en el medio, he visto varios videos de ella cantando acapella y la versatilidad, timbre, afinación, y poder de su voz son impresionantes. La canción en sí misma es bastante dinámica y movida, algo muy atípico de los endings puesto que las canciones de cierre suelen tener una vibra mucho más melancólica, de hecho esta canción podría perfectamente ser un opening y creo que en parte es gracias al propio estilo de LiSA. Pero sin dudas lo que más me gusta de este ending es el arte y la animación ya que nos muestra a la clase 1-A de la U.A en un mundo medieval al más puro estilo de Calabozos y Dragones, en el que nuestros héroes visten armaduras, empuñan espadas, usan magia, y se enfrentan a cualquier cantidad de amenazas propias de este estilo. Es un concepto que me gustó tanto que ni una sola vez pasé este ending, incluso pienso que debería tener su propio spin-off.
#4 - Hyori Ittai - Yuzu
Anime: Hunter x Hunter
I can say with complete and absolute certainty that The Chimera Ants is one of the best arcs ever written in the history of manga and anime, and I can also say with complete and absolute certainty that everyone who has seen Hunter x Hunter will agree with me. I could spend hours writing about what makes this anime so wonderful, however what concerns us today is the song used for its fifth and sixth ending: Hyori Ittai. Performed by the Japanese duo Yuzu and literally translated as "Two sides of the same coin", it’s a song that perfectly reflects all the approaches that this arc presents us, it’s not exactly sad but it is not happy either; despite having a moving tempo in the verse of the song it still gives a melancholic feeling due to the chords it uses, this is quite reinforced in the bridge to the chorus where the drums stop and leave space only for the voices and strings. However once in the chorus the feeling changes because, now it feels a song much more focused towards positivism but not from happiness but from melancholy itself, it is complicated to explain but I think this portrays very well the clash of ideologies and difficult moments that we see along the arc. Of course I cannot stop talking about the animation that although quite simple, gives us some beautiful drawings of all the important characters in this saga and at the end a picture of all together that is worthy of printing and hanging on the wall of our rooms.
Puedo decir con total y absoluta seguridad que las Hormigas Quimera es uno de los mejores arcos jamás escritos en la historia del manga y el anime, y también puedo decir con total y absoluta seguridad que todos los que hayan visto HunterxHunter estarán de acuerdo conmigo. Podría pasar horas escribiendo acerca de que es lo que hace tan maravilloso a este anime, sin embargo lo que nos atañe el día de hoy es la canción usada para su quinto y sexto ending: Hyori Ittai. Interpretada por el dúo japonés Yuzu y traducida literalmente como “Dos lados de la misma moneda”, es una canción que refleja a la perfección todos los planteamientos que nos presenta este arco, no es precisamente triste pero tampoco es alegre; a pesar de tener un tempo movido en el el estribillo de la canción igual da una sensación melancólica debido a los acordes que usa, esto se refuerza bastante en el puente hacia el coro donde la batería se detiene y deja espacio únicamente para las voces y las cuerdas. Sin embargo una vez en el coro la sensación cambia pues, ahora parece una canción mucho más enfocada hacia el positivismo pero no desde la felicidad sino desde la propia melancolía, es complicado de explicar pero creo que esto retrata muy bien el choque de ideologías y momentos difíciles que vemos a lo largo del arco. Por supuesto no puedo dejar de hablar de la animación que aunque bastante sencilla, nos regala unos dibujos bellísimos de todos los personajes importantes en esta saga y al final un cuadro de todos juntos que es digno de imprimir y colgar en la pared de nuestras habitaciones.
#3 - Lost in Paradise - Ali feat. AKLO
Anime: Jujutsu Kaisen
I have talked a couple of times about Jujutsu Kaisen, and for those who have read me it will not be news that I refer to this anime as an audiovisual delight from beginning to end, and quoting my own words, every second of footage is completely worth it, that goes from the opening (which by the way, is one of my favorite openings) to of course, its ending. Lost in Paradise is the first ending of the series and we hear it from episode 2 to 13. From the first note this song hooked me completely, it starts with trumpet and saxophone solos in the purest funk style, and why lie? The whole song is just that, pure good vibes that make you want to stand up and dance and enjoy even if you don't know how to dance, there is nothing deep or existential in this song, just a desire to have a great time and that's good. The animation that accompanies this great track is also quite original and nice to see, we watch our protagonists enjoying the music just like us, they are drawn as a kind of "sketch" (this may not be the right word to describe it, but I can't find another one, sorry) filled with solid and intense colors that go out of the edges, reinforcing even more that funk and urban vibe. Definitely a song made to listen to anytime and an impossible to skip ending.
He hablado un par de veces acerca de Jujutsu Kaisen, y para quienes me hayan leído no será novedad que me refiera a este anime como un deleite audiovisual de principio a fin, y citando mis propias palabras, cada segundo de metraje vale completamente la pena, eso va desde el opening (que por cierto, es uno de mis openings favoritos) hasta por supuesto, su ending. Lost in Paradise es el primer ending de la serie y lo escuchamos del el episodio 2 al 13. Desde la primera nota esta canción me enganchó completamente, inicia con solos de trompetas y saxofones al más puro estilo funk, ¿y para que mentir? Toda la canción es eso, pura buena vibra de la que te dan ganas de pararte a bailar y disfrutar incluso si no sabes bailar, aquí en esta canción no hay nada profundo ni existencial, solamente ganas de pasarla genial y eso está bien. La animación que acompaña a este temazo también es bastante original y agradable de ver, vemos a nuestros protagonistas disfrutando de la música al igual que nosotros, están dibujados como en especie de “boceto” (puede que esta no sea la palabra correcta para describirlo, pero no encuentro otra, lo siento) rellenos con colores sólidos e intensos que se salen de los bordes, reforzando más aún esa vibra funk y urbana. Sin duda una canción para escuchar en cualquier momento y un ending imposible de saltar.
#2 - USO - Sid

With this ending something similar happens to me as with Jujutsu Kaisen's Lost in Paradise, there is no melancholic or existentialist reason why I enjoy it so much, it just seems to me that at an audiovisual level it is very well done. The main reason may be the fact that I really like the animation, it's like a "chibi" version of the characters that moves like a frame by frame effect, it shows us the main characters we have met so far and everything is accompanied by the Japanese rock band, Sid, who in my opinion delivered a pretty catchy song that if comes to feel very consistent with the relatively light tone that has the first act of this adventure. Unfortunately I don't have much more to say about this ending, but don't get me wrong... It's not because of anything bad, I simply like it a lot (that's why it's so high on the list), but I think that's what art is all about after all, making us feel something, and that "something" doesn't have to be strictly tied to definite or even logical reasons. By making us enjoy it, art is achieving its goal, and that's just what this ending does.
Con este ending me pasa algo parecido que con Lost in Paradise de Jujutsu Kaisen, no hay una razón melancólica o existencialista por la que lo disfrute tanto, simplemente me parece que a nivel audiovisual está muy bien logrado. La razón principal puede ser el hecho de que la animación me gusta muchísimo, es como una versión “chibi” de los personajes que se mueve como en efecto de cuadro por cuadro, nos muestra a los personajes principales que hemos conocido hasta ahora y todo es acompañado por el grupo japonés de rock, Sid, que a mi parecer entregaron una canción bastante pegadiza que si llega a sentirse muy acorde con el tono relativamente ligero que tiene el primer acto de esta aventura. Desafortunadamente no tengo mucho más que decir de este ending, pero no me malentiendan… No es por algo malo, sencillamente me gusta mucho (por eso tiene un puesto tan alto en la lista), pero creo que después de todo de eso se trata el arte, de hacernos sentir algo, y ese “algo” no tiene que estar estrictamente ligado a razones definidas o incluso lógicas. Al hacernos disfrutar el arte está logrando su objetivo, y eso es justamente lo que hace este ending.
Honorable mention - Mención honorífica
Ángeles fuimos - Adrián Barba
Anime: Dragon Ball Z
After much thought I simply couldn’t leave this legend out, and specifically this version sung by Adrian Barba in the Latin American broadcast of Dragon Ball Z. This ending occupies this place for a purely nostalgic reason; Dragon Ball was the first anime for many of us and at least in my case, it was one of the first that made me passionate about this oriental art and basically the culprit for finding me here writing this post. What can I say that hasn't already been said? Thanks to Dragon Ball anime is the industry it is today, and this ending appeared in what in my humble opinion was the pinnacle of the saga: The end of the Cell saga and the beginning of the Majin Boo saga. After the epic battle of Gohan and Cell it was time for the young saiyan to take his father's legacy as the protector of the earth, and at the end of each episode we found this beautiful (and great) song that is accompanied by an equally great animation: Goku proudly observes from beyond the legacy he left on earth, the planet he loved and protected until the last moment; while Gohan, Goten and Trunks, for their part, move forward with optimism towards the future.
Después de pensarlo mucho simplemente no podía dejar a esta leyenda por fuera, y específicamente esta versión cantada por Adrián Barba en la transmisión latinoamericana de Dragon Ball Z. Este ending ocupa este lugar por una cuestión netamente nostálgica; Dragon Ball fue el primer anime de muchos de nosotros y al menos en mi caso, fue uno de los primeros que hizo que me apasionara por este arte oriental y básicamente el culpable por encontrarme aquí escribiendo este post. ¿Qué puedo decir que no se haya dicho ya? Gracias a Dragon Ball el anime es la industria que es hoy en día, y este ending apareció en lo que mi humilde opinión fue la cúspide de la saga: El final de la saga de Cell y el principio de la saga de Majin Boo. Después de la épica batalla de Gohan y Cell era el momento de que el joven saiyajin tomara el legado de su padre como el protector de la tierra, y al final de cada episodio nos encontrábamos con esta hermosa (y genial) canción que es acompañada por una animación igual de genial: Goku observa con orgullo desde el más allá el legado que dejo en la tierra, el planeta que tanto amó y protegió hasta el último momento; mientras por su parte Gohan, Goten y Trunks, avanzan con optimismo hacia el futuro.
#1 - Akuma no Ko - Ai Higuchi
Anime: Shingeki no Kyojin
It's funny that I include this ending because it literally came out yesterday, but as soon as I heard it I knew that it is BY FAR the best ending I've ever seen in my entire life. I can't even find words to properly describe everything it made me feel, but I can start by saying that it was very close to making me cry, both the song and the visuals that accompany it, it knew how to touch those heartstrings. It may be because I already know the ending of the manga and I understood all the references to it, but I still think the work that Mappa and the singer Ai Higuchi did is sublime, so much so that it doesn't take too much for this ending to touch your soul. "The world is cruel, but still I will love you, no matter what I have to sacrifice, all my life I will protect you, even if I'm wrong I will never doubt, the only way to be right is to believe in myself." Those are the chorus’ lyrics, while on the screen we can see a young Eren wearing a red scarf that then turns into a bird flying freely until shadows make a cage that interrupts its flight. However, the shadows dissipate and that boy can dream again, he can be free again. At the end we see Eren again, already as an adult, walking through a field of flowers, heading towards his destiny, towards his freedom... The music and animation leave a clear message: we are at the end of this journey and maybe that's what makes me so nostalgic with this ending, it's the end of a journey I've been following for 9 years. I also see it as a metaphor towards my own life and the situation I'm living; just like for Eren, it's also my moment to break the cage of darkness that has held me for so long and take flight to find my own destiny.
Es curioso que incluya este ending pues, literalmente salió ayer, pero a penas lo escuché supe que es DE LEJOS el mejor ending que he visto en toda mi vida. Es que ni siquiera encuentro palabras para describir apropiadamente todo lo que me hizo sentir, pero puedo comenzar diciendo que estuvo muy cerca de hacerme llorar, tanto la canción como las visuales que la acompañan supieron tocar esas fibras sensibles del corazón. Puede ser porque ya sé el final del manga y entendí todas las referencias al mismo, pero aun así creo que el trabajo que hicieron Mappa y la cantante Ai Higuchi es sublime, tanto que no se necesita demasiado para que este ending te llegue al alma. “El mundo es cruel, pero aun así te amaré, no importa lo que tenga que sacrificar, toda la vida te protegeré, aunque me equivoque nunca dudare, la única manera de tener razón es creer en mí mismo.” Es la letra del coro, mientras que en la pantalla podemos ver a un joven Eren vistiendo con la bufanda roja que luego se convierte en un ave que vuela con libertad hasta que las sombras hacen una jaula que interrumpe su vuelo. Sin embargo, las sombras se disipan y aquel niño puede soñar, puede ser libre de nuevo. Al final vemos a Eren, ya como un adulto, caminando a través de un campo de flores, dirigiéndose hacia su destino, hacia su libertad… La música y la animación dejan un mensaje claro: estamos en el final de este viaje y quizás es eso lo que me pone tan nostálgico con este ending, es el fin de un viaje que estoy siguiendo desde hace 9 años. También lo veo como una metáfora hacia mi propia vida y la situación que estoy viviendo; al igual que para Eren, también es mi momento de romper la jaula de oscuridad que me ha retenido por tanto tiempo y alzar vuelo para encontrar mi propio destino.
I know that not everyone takes the trouble to appreciate the endings of anime (myself included) but it is undoubtedly a much more important part of the episodes than we think because it is literally the last thing we see, plus there is also a whole audiovisual effort behind this that should be properly appreciated, in fact writing this post made me think about it and now I will try to pay much more attention to the endings. Sé que no todos se toman la molestia de apreciar los endings del anime (me incluyo) pero sin dudas es una parte de los episodios mucho más importante de lo que pensamos pues literalmente es lo último que vemos, además de que también hay todo un esfuerzo audiovisual detrás de esto que debería ser apreciado debidamente, de hecho escribir este post me hizo reflexionar al respeto y ahora trataré de prestarle mucha más atención a los endings. Sí, uno de los mejores animes que he visto :)
No sabes cómo me siento de identificado con el ending de Shingeki, de igual forma con el opening, o sea, es impresionante como se está cerrando toda una generación, son muchos años en los que hemos visto crecer a todos los personajes, aunque sea ficticio, es un trayecto que va acorde a nuestro propio crecimiento, es demasiado nostálgico pero demasiado mágico y hermoso, de verdad qué obra maestra es Shingeki.
Te dijera más sobre los otros endings pero la mayoría no los conozco, a excepción del de Dragon Ball obviamente porque Adrián Barba sí que es nuestra infancia; excelente post hermano, gracias por mantener tu calidad excepcional por encima de todo.
Creo que en general todo este final de Shingeki viene cargado de demasiadas emociones, tanto por los hechos de la trama como por el hecho que sea el final del viaje. Tengo que decir que a pesar de qué la gente odia el final de Snk, a mi me gustó, no es una obra maestra el final ni nada por el estilo, lo que si pienso es qué es un final bastante congruente y bien hecho y sobretodo, bastante humano. Pero bueno, eso es otro tema jajaja.
Sobre los otros endings pues, hay que ponerse al día hermano jajajaja. Ya viste HxH, pero te recomiendo mucho pero muchísimo Fullmetal, objetivamente hablando creo que es el MEJOR anime que he visto a nivel de escritura.
