Greetings friends, last Tuesday I had the opportunity to follow up on what is known as zenithal day, noon without shadow or zero shadow day ( Zero Shadow Day for its acronym in English).

This phenomenon occurs in my country twice a year, since Venezuela is located in the equatorial strip, therefore during the translation movement of the earth the sun will be located perpendicularly on this strip which makes the sun's rays fall exactly on our heads that day.

Although it's a phenomenon that is repeated every year it is usually something that goes unnoticed, many people don't realize this, although they live it every year.

Why is it important to learn to recognize the occurrence of this phenomenon?

Since I learned about the occurrence of this phenomenon at the end of last year, I have been following it, I have realized that as the zenith day approaches the days are hotter because the sun is more intense and therefore the climatic temperatures are very high.

From my point of view, having knowledge of the occurrence of this phenomenon is very important to take more rigorous measures to help us preserve our health, since in the days close to these dates we must be more careful to protect ourselves from the sun, keep hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids and restrict the time of exposure to the sun.

Observation of the phenomenon

The direct observation was made from Biruaca, Apure state, Venezuela, using two simple homemade objects that served to project the shadow and thus be able to observe the behavior during the observation period.

In the image you can see how the shadow is reduced as it approaches the time where the sun will be exactly at the zenith, totally perpendicular, at that time you can see that the object at 12:32 has no shadow or it is almost imperceptible.

According to the ZSD App in the cities of San Fernando and Biruaca due to their latitudes, this event will occur on 10/04/2024 at 12:31 and 12:32 respectively and will be repeated again in August. It should be noted that this event varies according to the latitude of each locality.

For many people astronomical events represent something fanciful, however these events are easily verifiable and notorious. Perhaps some people use the occurrence of these events to distort the facts, even with assumptions that become totally crazy associated with the end of the world. That is why I think it is important to know them and how they affect our existence.

Mediodía sin sombra en mi ciudad : Mito o realidad

Saludos amigos, el pasado martes tuve la oportunidad de hacerle seguimiento a lo que es conocido como día cenital, mediodía sin sombra o dia de sombra cero (Zero Shadow Day por sus siglas en ingles).

Este fenómeno ocurre en mi país dos veces al año, ya que Venezuela está ubicada en la franja ecuatorial, por lo tanto durante el movimiento de traslación de la tierra el sol se ubicará perpendicularmente sobre esta franja lo que hace que los rayos solares se posen exactamente sobre nuestras cabezas ese día.

Aunque es un fenómeno que se repite cada año por lo general es algo que pasa desapercibido, muchas personas no se dan cuenta de esto, aunque lo viven cada año.

Por qué es importante aprender a reconocer la ocurrencia de este fenómeno?

Desde que me enteré de la ocurrencia de este fenómeno a finales del año pasado, le he hecho seguimiento, me he dado cuenta de que a medida que se acerca el dia cenital los días son mas calurosos ya que el sol está mas intenso y por ende las temperaturas climáticas son muy elevadas.

Desde mi punto de vista tener conocimiento de la ocurrencia de este fenómeno es muy importante para tomar medidas más rigurosas que nos ayuden a preservar nuestra salud, ya que en los días cercanos a estas fechas debemos ser más cuidadosos al protegernos del sol, mantenernos hidratados bebiendo abundantes líquidos y restringir el horario de exposición al sol.

Observación del fenómeno

La observación directa la realicé desde Biruaca estado Apure, Venezuela, usando dos objetos sencillos caseros que sirvieron para proyectar la sombra y así poder observar el comportamiento durante el periodo de observación.

En la imagen se puede observar como la sombra se va reduciendo a medida que se aproxima a la hora donde el sol exactamente estará en el cenit, totalmente perpendicular, en ese momento se puede visualizar que el objeto a las 12:32 no tiene sombra o esta es casi imperceptible.

Según la App ZSD en las ciudades de San Fernando y Biruaca por sus latitudes, este evento ocurriría el 10/04/2024 a las 12:31 y 12:32 respectivamente y se repetirá nuevamente en agosto. Cabe destacar que este evento varía según la latitud de cada localidad.

Para muchos los eventos astronómicos representan algo fantasioso, sin embargo estos eventos son fácilmente comprobables y notorios. Quizás algunas personas se valen de la ocurrencia de estos para tergiversar los hechos, incluso con suposiciones que llegan a ser totalmente descabelladas asociadas con el fin del mundo. Por eso pienso que es importante conocerlos y saber cómo estos inciden en nuestra existencia.
