A few days ago my house was invaded by insects, announcing the arrival of the rainy season. Most of them were crickets and bugs, but one orange-colored one caught my attention and entered my kitchen highlighting its peculiar beauty.

Looking through Google Lens I noticed that it was a species of assassin bug
Zelus renardii of the family Reduviidae. They are called assassin bugs because they are hunters of other insects. The animal seemed harmless and remained perched on the counter, I noticed that it did not flutter around like the crickets.

Note its long legs, sometimes it would stand up on them and hover for a while on its four legs. I loved its very striking color, somewhere between orange and reddish. I could not observe its eyes as they were too small and as I did not know if it was poisonous I did not dare to touch it to try to see its eyes. In the description on the internet it says that its sting is usually painful, fortunately it stayed calm on the spot.

Near him there was another insect very similar in morphology but of a duller color, a light brown tone tending to beige. It is also from the same family of bedbugs Reduviidae.

It is said that these species inhabit plants, although I have no plants in the kitchen, they dared to enter it very discreetly, possibly attracted by the light.

I do not know the life span of these insects, but I could observe that at approximately 48 hours it was already dead on the area where I had seen it. I imagine they have a short life span.

Una chinche asesina en mi cocina

Hace pocos días mi casa estaba invadida de insectos, anunciando la llegada de la temporada de lluvias. La mayoría de ellos eran grillos y cocos pero llamó mi atención uno de color anaranjado que entró a mi cocina destacando su peculiar belleza.

Buscando por Google Lens noté que se trata de una especie de chinche asesina Zelus renardii of the family Reduviidae. Se les denomina chinches asesinos porque son cazadores de otros insectos. El animal parecía inofensivo y se mantuvo posado sobre el mesón, noté que no revoloteaba como los grillos.

Observen sus largas patas, a veces se levanta sobre ellas y queda un rato suspendído de sus cuatro patas. Me encantó su color muy llamativo, entre anaranjado y rojizo. No pude observar sus ojos ya que los tenía muy pequeños y como no sabía si era venenoso no me atreví a tocarlo para intentar ver sus ojos. En la descripción que aparece en internet dice que su picadura suele ser dolorosa, afortunadamente se mantuvo tranquilo en el lugar.

Cerca de él había otro insecto muy parecido en la morfología pero de un color más opaco, un tono marrón claro tendiendo a beige. También es de la misma familia de chinches Reduviidae.
Se dice que estás especies habitan en las plantas, aunque no tengo plantas en la cocina se atrevieron a entrar a ella muy discretamente, posiblemente haya sido atraídos por la luz.

Desconozco el tiempo de vida que pueden tener estos insectos, pero pude observar que aproximadamente a las 48 horas ya estaba muerto sobre el área donde lo había visto. Imagino tienen un periodo corto de vida.
