Prionyx parkeri sp. ~ Thread-waisted Wasp

(Edited)

One afternoon, I went looking for photography spots at the park near a reservoir in my town. I thought I could find a Pseudapis bee swarm that usually perches on the grass that afternoon.

Look at that. What I found wasn't even a Pseudapis bee, but some thread-waisted wasps. It is Prionyx parkeri, a species of thread-waisted wasp belonging to the family Sphecidae.

Prionyx sp. can be identified by the following characteristics: compound eyes are black; the face and thorax are covered with white fur; the abdomen is marked with light orange; purplish brown wings; and thorny legs.

I don't think thread-waisted wasps are aggressive insects towards humans. Because I was so close when I took the photos, and I didn't seem to be considered a threat to them.
