The Culture of Riding Bicycles - Cows Farm of Grandpa 🐄 🌲

IMG_20230210_200332_978.jpg

On a daily basis, people of all ages choose riding according to different purpose, from little kids going to school to older folks taking care of cows at the feed place. Today, I'd like to paint a picture of village life, where bicycles were commonly used as transportation and how I used to do things as a child - like the ice cream seller I bumped into last evening!

Everyone has heard about the benefits of biking, along with the freedom, speed, and wind in somebody's hair. But, in this blog, I want to take you back to a more prosperous time, like when I was a youngster.

In Cambodia, it is almost hot every day in this month. From afternoon to evening, the temperature is never lower than 32 °C, which makes the ice cream business work so well in my village.

Ice-cream Motorbike 🛵🍦

I was immediately running into people who just happened to be passing by so as to take pictures. One such person was an ice cream seller who always had a friendly smile for me.

It is out and about on a hot weather when I see a motorbike driving around with an ice cream cart attached. I have stopped my motorbike as well to buy a delicious stick ice cream, but the warm part is that the ice cream seller is one of your regular customers who supporting my family business. This ice cream salesman had been a long-time customer of mine. He had been buying gasoline from us for years, never once faltering in his support. So when I actually see his motorbike design that sold ice cream, I decided to help out in any way I could. Even though I was feeling under the weather for a few days, I purchased some of the ice cream and gave it to children in the village who about to go asking for her mom money to buy it otherwise.

Purchasing an ice cream of the sweet treat and gave them to the kids in the village, who were thrilled to get a free snack, exactly make us feel so heart warming.

I guess, if you've visited any country in Asia, particularly Cambodia, I'm sure you've seen ice cream motorbikes zooming by! This cool business styles design in a very cool way, which is easy for seller to work and sell - they come with a speaker to advertise the sweet treats and the louder it gets, the more customers will come. However, one problem is that if the salesman puts it too loud, they may disturb some elders in rural Cambodia. In these villages, it's tradition for people to take an afternoon siesta after lunch, you will find that most of them sleep during afternoon - this was something my grandmother always encouraged me to do when I was young too!

The funny things is that I actually drive my motorcycle in the same way as the ice cream salesman does, well I have no clue where I was driving to at all, suddenly going down the alley to the village. I love living in a small village life too, its good social interaction and friendly people here make me do not want to go back home.

Cycling Boys off to Home 🚲🏠

Bicycles are the ideal transportation mode for villages for a number of reasons. They are first and mainly inexpensive and helpful. They are environmentally friendly because they don't use fossil fuels to run. And they're highly effective—using a bicycle, you can cover a lot of ground quickly! As a child, you may remember the feeling of freedom that came with riding your bike. I certainly do!

It's now 5 p.m., and all the students have just come home from school. Nowadays, many kids ride bikes to school as it isn't too far away. However, in the past, riding wasn't common, as only wealthy families had them and walking was the familiar and popular. Back then, parents would wake us up at 4 a.m. in order to get us ready for school as it was 8 kilometers away.

I don't know in modern Asia and the Western world, not many people wake up that early for school, but my sister @sreypov does—she takes her kids by tuk-tuk as they live in a mountainous area with limited transportation options and the school is still quite far away.

Not sure how long it would take them all to ride bicycles.

To care for his cow, grandfather rode his bicycle to the cow location.

Generally, kids in Cambodia usually start school at four years old. Boys attend the primary school, but afterwards they help their parents by getting them things they asked them to. I recently noticed that the tree behind the boy in this picture is shaped like it's sleeping, and it looks like it might fall soon. But I've seen it there for several years now, and it's still standing strong.

It's great that all the kids have friends to hang out with; it brings a great sense of community and encourages them to share and develop their sense of humor! I'm curious to see what they're discussing right now.

Sometimes, I wish that somebody would take the initiative to do something charitable for the children in my village, like providing them with school supplies. It would bring them so much joy!

She's my friend who used to be in the army, but she had to retire now to take care of her elderly mother who's ill at home. During that time, she rode her bike while carrying the diaper bag for her mother.

When I last visited her house, I got this photo taken. She lives with her mother, and I wanted to ask how things had been going for them.

Oh, she had a funny reaction to the bike when it arrived—she said she was exhausted from her trip to the market!

Biking is one of the most enjoyable hobbies, both old people and young people seems like they are happy riding their bike, it might be it is because of the fact that the air including with the natural beauty here is providing such a good vibe.

Although, it is a small village, all of them are friendly and always make the environment become more funnier, I really like your community between your friend and you.

Oh, you're @sreypov 's sister, how nice! I have been following her family's story since the time they were stranded in Suriname. I'm happy to see she has gotten you to post on Hive too! And such a great post this is! I believe every bicycle related post deserves an upvote, but I see you have been posting about many other interesting things too.
