I came to this decision a long time ago. Once I lend money out, I forget about it. It's burden to worry about repayment. And it ruins relationships.
I never lend money unless I can afford to lose it.
I have the same attitude about anything I lend. I've lent my car to people. It came back once with a big dent in it. Didn't matter. Once I handed the keys over I was prepared for anything that might happen.
That was great you were able to help your teacher. It feels wonderful to do that, doesn't it?
