Whiskers 3 years later

Two years ago, almost, I wrote about not being able to do this trip due to global lockdowns. It was during the first wave of the vid. It was a #Caturday post, talking about Whiskers the cat, a mountain cat that decided to become a home cat. I remember, back then, he was fiercely independent. Understandably so, since he lived by himself in the mountains (or did he?), without any human help. One day, he followed a family home and stayed around them.

I've finally been able to visit during this trip and wow! Whiskers is still here! He's a "fat cat" now, in more ways than one. He's a big deal in the neighbourhood. Not only is he a house cat now ( he lives indoors with the family haha), but he's literally a lot larger than when I first met him. It may just be that he was still growing back then and now he's a full adult size. I don't know, I think the convenience of not having to hunt for his own food, and how much food he gets from the family, have made him a fat lazy cat.

He doesn't bother the dogs anymore. They just ignore him. I guess it's been 3 years plus since he came to the neighbourhood. He's been finally accepted.

I don't know if he remembers me or not. Do cats have that kind of memory? I know dogs do. Well, at least they recall the scent of a person even after three years have past. He did come to me and rub up against my legs, but he does that to everyone, so that's no proof of memory.

I think I found his brother!

I mentioned above that he's a mountain cat. He came from Javorovy, and when I went up the mountain and stopped at the inn on the summit, I noticed a cat that looked identical to Whiskers! Also, the cat was about the same size as Whiskers - looking a bit fat and lazy. That's got to be his brother! They look exactly the same!

It got me thinking that perhaps his size is a genetic outcome. Here are two (twin?)cats, supposedly separated sometime after birth. Three years apart under supposedly different conditions, but still end up looking the same. Nature of nurture? Who knows?

Perhaps they both decided to find homes for themselves at the same time. One went into the inn and the other followed a family home. Now there's a Disney movie there somewhere 😺

Peace & Love,

Adé

How beautiful is that cat. Big and healthy. I'm glad it's cared for and indoors.
So cute.
