"¡Oh, no!

English

The whole purpose of Mr. Robert’s life had been the accumulation of property, with an end to his own gratification. He has never been involved in any benevolence act, and in giving, he has never experienced the blessings attached to good deeds. his selfishness has deprived him of what was justly his

As time passes, Mr. Robert keeps adding dollars to dollars, houses to houses, and cars to cars. Yet he has never been satisfied with all his possessions, which look so small compared with the wealth of the world. As he grew older, he placed value on what he had as a means of gaining more.

His mother, a true woman, perceiving the strong, selfish, and accumulative bent of his character, sought in every possible way to implant in his mind feelings of benevolence and regard for others. One of the approaches she used was to take him to see poor or sick people and so interest him in them as to create a desire in his mind to afford relief.

She perceived this desire as awakened, and she devised some mode of bringing it into activity so that he might feel the delights that spring from a consciousness of having done well to another.

But as he bent his mind more and more earnestly toward the accumulation of money, these feelings had less and less influence over him. “Every Man for himself” became the leading principle of his life, and he acted upon it on all occasions.

Life went on, and Mr. Robert was ever busy gathering his golden heart's desire, so busy that he had no time for anything else, not even to enjoy what he possessed. He was sixty (60) years old, and his wealth extended to many hundreds of thousands of dollars. But he was farther from being satisfied than ever

It happened about this time that Robert had occasion to go some miles from the country. On returning home, his carriage was overturned, and he had a fracture on his limb, which occurred near a farmhouse, Farmer Mr. Godson, seeing the accident, ran over to help Mr. Robert Seeing how injured he was, he rode him down to his house, got a physician, and discovered he had broken his right leg.

He stay for some time to get better before he returned to his town and appreciated Mr. Godson and his wife for their generous hospitality. He also offered them a whopping amount of dollars but Mr. Godson declined the offer and said, “ This is what is expected of me to do as a human being.”

After a few months of recovery, Mr. Robert continued his business, and a broker came to him and asked him if he would be interested in buying a well-cultivated farm. As a businessman, he got interested, and in the process of the discussion, the broker said, “Poor Godson.” Immediately, Mr. Robert got intrigued by the name and asked for more information about Mr. Godson, and he realized it was the same Godson who saved his life.

The man who had been so selfish found himself checked at last by the thought of another while about grasping a money advantage, The interest of another rose up in him, and began to think how Godson and his wife saved his life, Even though declined the cash gift, he began worrying about the situation

While Godson is devastated and worrisome about the farm, he got a surprise visit from Jenny,
“What is the matter, my friend? You look worried,” Jenny asked
“I’m in trouble,” Godson responded unhesitatingly
“What is the problem?” Jenny inquired
“ I lost my farm to a mortgage.”
“Oh no!
“Don’t be troubled, my good friend, said Mr. Robert. “You rendered me a service in my time of need, and it is now in my power to return it, The farm is still yours; I hold the mortgage.>

As he drove back to the city, he reflected on what he had done and recalled the delight on Godson's face, his heart limping for new and happy emotions.

Having permitted himself to regard another with unselfishness, that interest continued. Many of these acts were embraced, and Mr. Robert realized that it is something more blessed to give than to receive. He found in the latter years of his life a new pleasure: The Pleasure of Benevolence

Wow!!
It's always good to give than to receive. The quest for wealth grows as each day goes by. Even the richest men aren't always satisfied. They want more and more of riches, houses, cars, name it.
I'm glad Mr, Robert had a thorough think and did the right thing by returning the good deed Mr. Godson did for him cause one good turn, deserves another.

It is very good to give rather than receiving because you don't know the kind of state the giver was before giving out.
Meanwhile God loves giver not receivers
There is also joy in give and I am happy that Mr Robert later change his way of life at the end.

Giving is a good habit and a virtue. Mr. Robert had learnt the importance of giving, it is selfish to only want to receive all the time without giving.

Thank you for sharing.
