ecoTrain QOTW 9.9: "DO WE NEED A GURU OR TEACHER IN ORDER TO GROW SPIRITUALLY?"

Hey everyone, it's yet another Q0TW week and I'm so excited to participate in ecoTrain QOTW 9.9. Thanks to @ecotrain community for this interesting topic which has given us opportunity to express our different opinions as a whole.

Now, Let's go straight to the topic:

"DO WE NEED A GURU OR TEACHER IN ORDER TO GROW SPIRITUALLY?".

I will like to explain some major key words in order to give us a light into this topic.
The two key words are teacher or guru and Spirituality.

I will first start with spirituality.

According to Collins dictionary, it is the state or quality of being dedicated to God, religion, or spiritual things or values.

You will notice I bold the word "quality", The quality of your spirituality determines the height you attain Spiritually.

The next word is the Teacher or Guru;
I categorized this together because Guru is an expert in a particular field, this is because they have a clear understanding of a subject and the subject we are talking here is "Spirituality".
I love how Wikipedia explain the word teacher, it says;

A teacher, also called a schoolteacher or formally an educator, is a person who helps" students to acquire knowledge, competence or virtue.

Relating spirituality and teacher or guru together. I will simply say a teacher or guru is an educator who help his/her student to acquire knowledge, competence or virtue relating to the quality of spirtuality his or her student will attain spiritually.

Now, there are different level of Spiritual attainment. Therefore, the level or the quality of the spiritual growth you want to attain, determines the type of teacher or guru you seek.

If i should answer the question "DO WE NEED A GURU OR TEACHER IN ORDER TO GROW SPIRITUALLY?". I will reply YES.

Now I want you to get this clear, To attain any Spiritual height you must have a desire. When you have a desire, it will help in accomplishing your goal and this is applicable to Spirituality. If you get the best teacher or guru, and you don't have desire to grow spiritually, all effort by the teacher or guru in spirtuality will amounts to nothing. Desire fuels Passion.

The reason why i said you need a guru or teacher in order to grow spiritually is because they already had experience relating to spiritual growth and we all know that Experience is the best teacher. Your teacher or guru had already attainned the level you are about attaining, So, it will help your process of growing spiritually and also prevent you from making mistakes that can jeopardize your journey of attaining spiritual growth.

I liken a teacher or Guru as a Shepherd, who keep and care for the flock's.(i.e students). When talking about Shepherd i.e teacher or guru, we have both the good ones and the bad ones. So it is important you make a right choice in choosing the good ones, because this will have a great impact in your spiritual growth.

A good shepherd, teacher or guru always want the best for his/her students, not the one that feels insecure about the level of progress of his/her students spiritual growth.

Many people have fallen victim of bad teachers or guru. Infact, recently i came across a news where a spiritual leader ask his congregation to drink detergents so that they can attain a level of spiritual growth, imagine that act of wickedness. Many have sold alot of precious items all to please their spiritual leader, teacher or guru. Alot of marriages are being destroyed all because they have place their Spiritual leader, teacher or guru above their husbands or wives. They choose to obey their Spiritual leader, teacher or guru rather than than their spouses. To make things worst, the respect they can't give their parent, they give more to their Spiritual leader, teacher or guru.

Please don't get me wrong, I don't mean that you should not respect your Spiritual leaders, teacher or guru. But stop treating them as God, they are humans, let there be balance.

A good spiritual leader, teacher or guru will always point your attention to God not to himself. He is only a vessel used by God. He is there to lead and guide you on the right track, it's through this act you can you grow spiritually.
