My Cleaning Activity For Saturday the 4th of May, 2024.

Good day, fellow hivers, welcome to my blog. I carried out my cleaning activity for the day within a neighbouring community. I collected the waste and disposed it off properly.

As I was busy picking the litter, I stumbled on a waterway that was covered by grasses but was littered with plastics. I asked a friend living in this community the cause of this evil act. This friend made me know that people usually dump refuse in this river.

Waste disposal in undesignated areas, such as open or vacant land, water sources, and other areas is a major concern. You are no stranger to people dumping huge waste piles in water bodies and drainages in this country. There is always an overflow of waste in the most well-defined waste dumps, some of which are becoming mountains. When you drive through the majority of the city of this country, you will see garbage all over the place; the markets, roads, bridges, drains, schools, etc., some of which are now mountains, and some are indiscriminately disposed due to a lack of prompt response from the government department concerned. When it rains, one will find that indiscriminate dumps of waste hinder the free movement of erosion and floods, resulting in blockages of drainages and floods to various places, including living houses and farmlands, which result in overflooding, which results in destruction
of lives and properties.

Refuse dumps along streams and river courses cause flooding which can result in
natural disasters. It can also result in outbreaks of diseases and plagues.
Such as cholera, typhoid fever, diarrhoea, poliomyelitis, worm infestations onchocerciasis and
hepatitis which has continued to be a major public health problem in this part of the world.

Every household should obtain waste disposal baskets for refuse collection and dump them inside strategically
placed waste disposal containers provided by the government that would be emptied regularly.
