First Blackberry Picking on a Fungi Friday ^^

Hello lovely Hiveans !

During the last walks to the forest with my son, we discovered many blackberry bushes at the side of the roads. They were not seasoned that time and so we decided back in the days to get back to them on another day, hoping that we will be more lucky and find some nice fruits to pick for a little snack. In addition we had a lot of rain the last days, which is promising when it comes to find some nice fungi there too. So it was the perfect combination and basis to go out on a Fungi Friday Hunt .. Also I rather like to picture fungi, my son kind of loves to jump around on them to see and investigate how the smashed bodies are looking afterwards. Its a bit of a pity for the fruit bodies, but a scientific way of research that is still acceptable and maybe even suiting for a four year old boy 😁 .. Today I like to document our findings of our fungi and also very first big blackberry hunt ^^

Shortly after entering the forest we found this really nice old tree stump. It was completely covered with fungi and we rested there quite a while and looked at it carefully. We found some more nice stumps, but this one here was the one with the biggest quantity of fungi to find and in my opinion even with the most beautiful ones too ^^

While I tried my best to take some nice pictures, my son was already eager to pick some of them to trample on them afterwards. I assume that, also I was quite satisfied to take my pictures, he had far more fun then I had 😁

After he finished with his experiments and was already a bit bored examining the remains of his doings, we ventures forth to the blackberry bushes. On our way I discovered some more nice fungi, that were spread all over the forest, but in a hermit fashion and not as clustered as the first ones at the stump. I know these fungi by the name of Puffballs and they are really nice to watch, peaking out of the ground just everywhere.

Finally, after a bit of a hike, we reached the blackberry bushes. Many of them still not seasoned properly, but among the huge quantity of berries on several bushes, we were able to pick some really nice and tasty ones. It was really nice to see him running back and forth between all of them, searching for a nice black one 😃

He spent quite a while browsing to the rich and tasty offer from the bushes and ate around 20 of them during that time. I also tried some and they were really delicious. So in the end we had our very first and successful blackberry hunt together which was really enjoyable. I am sure that in the coming weeks, whenever we go to the forest again, he will be on the look for some more berries whenever we pass a proper bush 😄

Best of luck in your future blackberry excursions! Hopefully you can get enough to make a jam or something, that'd be a fun activity for your son too.

Oh yes, jam would be really cool 😎 .. making own jam from collected fruits must be a lot of satisfactory fun .. maybe next month we try it again and bring a bucket with us 😉

Haha 😄 .. you can use it as you wish @qwerrie .. its probably more a well-known truth among nature lovers out there since centuries ^^ .. its sad to not have blackberries around there. They are super tasty, lots of fun to pick and can be used in a vast range of tasty applications 😋 .. In Germany they grow just everywhere .. in the area where I am living, they use them on the side roads of old railroad tracks which were transformed into bike roads ^^ .. so I probably can get a lot of berries from there really soon 🥳 .. great blackberry tasting picture by the way. It a huge berry and must have been tasty and sweet :)
