Why Your Story Matters More Than You Think

If you are struggling with your writing skills, this is for you. In this clip, Michaela Alexis, a LinkedIn expert and one of my latest guests, points out something important. We often think we should write or create content just to share what’s happening in our lives, and hopefully get a few votes in HIVE, if I may add. But she reminds us that the real purpose isn’t to talk about ourselves. It’s to help other people see themselves in what we share.

Si estás teniendo dificultades con tus habilidades de escritura, esto es para ti. En este clip, Michaela Alexis, experta en LinkedIn y una de mis invitadas más recientes, señala algo importante. A menudo pensamos que deberíamos escribir o crear contenido solo para compartir lo que está pasando en nuestras vidas y, con suerte, conseguir algunos votos en HIVE, si se me permite añadirlo. This is a real paradigm shift. Many of us think connection happens through shared experiences or clever conversation. What I learned from talking with Michaela is that storytelling isn’t about whether someone has lived the same experience, although that can help. What really matters is whether the person reading can relate to the emotions inside the story. Do they find comfort, guidance, or encouragement there. That’s the real power of story, at least in my experience.

Este es un verdadero cambio de paradigma. Muchos creemos que la conexión ocurre a través de experiencias compartidas o de conversaciones ingeniosas. Lo que aprendí al conversar con Michaela es que el storytelling no se trata de si alguien ha vivido la misma experiencia, aunque eso puede ayudar. Lo que realmente importa es si la persona que lee puede relacionarse con las emociones que hay dentro de la historia. ¿Encuentran consuelo, guía o ánimo en ella? Ese es el verdadero poder de una buena historia, al menos desde mi experiencia.

People don’t need identical lives to feel connected. They just need access to the emotions that make us human. When someone recognizes fear, hope, uncertainty, or courage in a story, they feel seen.

Las personas no necesitan tener vidas idénticas para sentirse conectadas. Solo necesitan acceso a las emociones que nos hacen humanos. Cuando alguien reconoce el miedo, la esperanza, la incertidumbre o el coraje en una historia, se siente visto.

For those of us who are still struggling to write better or share more meaningful stories, I want to encourage you to keep going. With time, storytelling becomes a natural and meaningful way to connect with others. Not through perfection, but through honesty. I’m curious what you think.
