Home Grown Honey

I bought my first mobile phone back in 2002, that's two decades ago, it was a Nokia 3310, used but in good shape and at that time, wearing that so called gadget and using it felt like I was part of the technological progress. Displays for portable shit weren't such a fuzz at that time.

Now most of us are carrying smartphones in our pockets, smartwatches on our wrists, we sometimes put VR headsets on our heads and live for hours in a virtual world, we have online communities composed of members that haven't ever met in real life, we're able to move fortunes over the internet in a matter of seconds and we're witnessing the incipient stages of what's to be called a world wide virtual empire.

Hi5 was my first experience with social media and it has been a short lived one. Probably less than a year after I ditched HI5 I created myself my first facebook account, I owned two over the years and both are deleted for many years, same as my instagram and whatsapp accounts. Hive is my day and night companion for close to four years now. It has managed to evolve tremendously from the Steem forking time and it sure looks like this is just the beginning.

There are talks of the metaverse at almost any on and offline corner and you'd be amazed to hear who's talking about it, how much knowledge some have in this regard and how futile some of the discussions are regarding this topic.

So far most of the talks regarding the metaverse is just pure speculation and @taskmaster4450 has already pointed out that there is literally not enough computational power in the world to sustain such a thing as a metaverse. Such talks though are pure speculation. Individuals around the world, though, super stars and your average Joes are willing to "move over to the metaverse" and leave the real world behind... for hours on a day.

DJ Steve Aoki, for example, is "building his own world" in the so called metaverse and is releasing 25,000 NFT based access tickets to this world. The famous DJ has his personal collection of bored apes and other animal themed jpegs, sold for tons of money, and is planning on selling his "metaverse merch" on a market in that world as well.

Snoop Dogg is another celebrity that is no stranger from the metaverse concept and NFTs. The man has bought his own plot of land in a virtual game called Sandbox, he's planning on having private concerts where access can be gained through purchases of NFTs, he has minted his own NFTs and you should also know that a plot of land near his has been sold for $450,000 in ETH.

Ethereum is no longer the blockchain for "you and I", but Hive, Solana, Polygon, Elrond and others are, so don't worry about that. But, why are these people so hyped about this metaverse thing and the NFT craze?

I'd say it's pretty much the same reason why we are soaked up by Hive. We have our own home grown honey in here. My Hive account is my legacy, is the virtual realm where I can build whatever I want, as much as the blockchain and apps created on it allow it atm and that's what these folks are searching for as well.

Unlimited potential and abundance.

Unlimited freedom, freedom to create, to express, to speak out and to build your own world. There are basically no laws and restrictive measures in this worlds. It's made by the people for the people. The current situation in the world right now regarding fundamental freedoms is indirectly pushing us to create such worlds. Bitcoin is a manifesto and blockchain technology is the wax creating future honey filled hives...

This technology has literally infinite potential and it would be such a waste not to explore it. Exciting times we're living and it sure feels like we're just getting started.

Thanks for attention,
Adrian

There are always two things to consider: hype and technology. The technological hype cycle is real.

Here is where separating fact from fiction is required even though it is blurry. There is no doubt the Metaverse is in our future, it is just a long time down the road. The same might be true of teleportation but it would be foolish to buy "teleportation stocks" at this point.

People get caught up in the hype just like the dotcom bubble. Every stock that has anything to do with the internet, even just via press release, was pumped to the moon. Of course, it crashed.

Yet we did get Amazon, Google, Priceline, and Netflix started in that era. So there was societal changing innovation.

Of course we did not see much of this until more than a decade later.

The same is true here. The hype is causing a lot of jumping in, especially financially. That will end up being washed out. However, we will have NFT and blockchain projects that are enduring. We just have to see which ones they will be.

We are all working each day to ensure Hive is one that is around long-term.

the fact that Hive has managed to stick around for that long without much hype is a proof of its unshakable foundation.

My first phone was a hand me down Motorilla and I think it was the most amazing phone I could get. Then we had smart phones and obviously they got kicked out of the market for the most part. Things definitely change quite fast and you can easily get left behind.
