The lights on my bicycle || Las luces de mi bicicleta

Do you ride your bicycle at night? I seldom do. But I learned that it's important to be prepared for when you have to do so, and that involves having some lighting. A few months ago, I decided to invest in this aspect with the options that were available in the area where I live, where choices are limited. Today I want to tell you about two of those accessories. But first, I would like to deeply thank this community for awarding me its official Badge. It's very exciting for me because it's a valuable recognition, and it creates a commitment for me to continue bringing quality content to this space. Thank you very much.

FRONT LIGHT

It's a simple light, whose shape is very similar to a conventional flashlight. It came with a piece to attach it to the handlebars. Once installed, the lamp is secured. So the lamp itself can be placed and removed. Additionally, it can be turned left and right. It operates by placing three AA size batteries. I believe that is an advantage because some of these lamps are offered as rechargeable, but their lithium battery has a very short lifespan and gets damaged just by storing the charge, so we use it very little and have to discard it. With AA batteries, that doesn't happen. We can buy new ones or take them out when we're not using them.

It has two light modes: steady and flashing. Obviously, I bought it to use with the steady mode, and it provides sufficient light to see where I'm going to ride. I positioned it at an angle where it barely touches the front tire and the rest points forward. I hardly use the second mode because I imagine it is for emergencies, to ask for help or warn of danger. The flashing is very, very fast. Unfortunately, when converting the video to a .gif, the speed of light is lost. So imagine that image but ten times faster.

In my case, I don't always keep it on because I ride during the day, and I'm afraid that someone (or myself) might accidentally trip over it and break some part unnecessarily. So I carry the lamp in my little bag every time I go out with a possibility of it getting dark before I return.

Some have asked me, "Do you see with just that light?" And I reply yes, because one doesn't ride so fast that you need a deeper light. Also, the street lighting helps a lot in some sections. But I think a very useful aspect is for oncoming cars to see me since there are no reflector strips anywhere on my bike. Now that I write this, I think it could be a good investment.

REAR LIGHT

I really like this one. Because my bike has a basket attached to the back, I can't attach it under the seat. So I crudely tied it to the basket. I said it would be temporary, but it's been like that for many months now. Why does that happen? I don't know...

Its light is very powerful. It can be easily seen from a distance. Vehicle drivers can easily spot me and take precautions. The first mode is flashing. I use this one less, but it warns clearly that I'm on the road. The second mode is steady. This is the one I use the most. Some have told me that when I use it, they thought it was a motorcycle passing by. The third mode I call "ambulance." Yes, because the light alternates from side to side. I have used it less also. And the last mode I call "party" because it's a bit crazy. It seems like the light is dancing inside that trunk. When I want to go frantically and scare people, I use this light.

By the way I held it, I don't want to untie it. So that one is fixed, no matter if it's daytime on the streets. Obviously, it doesn't have the LEDs on. They are off. But I think it looks like a nice decoration and even though it's not reflective, the red color among the black color I think works well as a warning to the one coming behind me.

CONCLUSION.

You will surely agree that safety is important, and having lighting is part of that goal. Of course, they are not the most innovative or the ideal ones, but I think it is a basic thing that helps in some way. Anything we can invest in accessories like these is good. What are yours? LUZ DELANTERA.

Es una luz sencilla, cuya forma es muy parecida a una linterna convencional. Trajo la pieza para sujetarla al manubrio. Una vez instalado se sujeta la lámpara. Así que la lámpara en sí se puede colocar y quitar. Además, puede girar hacia la izquierda y la derecha. Funciona colocándole tres pilas de tamaño AA. Éso creo que es una ventaja, porque algunas de éstas lámparas las ofrecen como recargables, pero su pila de litio tiene una vida útil muy corta y se dañan con sólo almacenar la carga, así que poco la usamos y tenemos que desecharla. Con las pilas AA no sucede eso. Podemos comprar nuevas o sacarlas cuando no las estemos usando.

Tiene dos modalidades de luces: la fija y la intermitente. Obviamente, la compré para usarla con la primera modalidad, y brinda una luz suficiente para ver por dónde voy a manejar. La fijé con una inclinación donde apenas toca el caucho delantero y el resto se dirige hacia adelante. La segunda modalidad casi no la uso porque me imagino que es para usarla en caso de emergencia, para pedir auxilio o advertir de un peligro. La intermitencia es muy, muy rápida. Lamentablemente al transformar el video en .gif se pierde la velocidad de la luz. Así que imagínense esa imagen pero diez veces más rápido.

En mi caso, no la llevo siempre puesta, porque salgo de día, y me da miedo que por accidente alguien la tropiece (o yo mismo) y se rompa alguna parte innecesariamente. Así que la lámpara la llevo en mi bolsito cada vez que salgo con alguna posibilidad de que oscurezca antes de regresar.

Algunos me han preguntado: "¿Y tu vez con esa luz solamente?" Y yo les respondo que sí, ya que uno no maneja tan rápido que necesite una luz más profunda. Además, el iluminado publico también ayuda mucho en algunos tramos. Pero creo que un uso muy útil es que los autos que se dirigen en dirección contraria puedan verme, en vista que en ningún lugar de mi bicicleta hay cintas reflectoras. Ahora que lo escribo, creo que puede ser una buena inversión.

LUZ TRASERA

Ésta me gusta mucho. Debido a que mi bicicleta tiene adaptada una cesta en la parte de atrás, no puedo sujetarla debajo del asiento. Así que la amarré vulgarmente a la cesta. Dije que sería temporal, pero ya lleva muchos meses así. ¿Por qué pasará eso? No sé...

Su luz es muy potente. Fácilmente se distingue a la distancia. Los choferes de vehículos pueden verme con facilidad y tomar sus precauciones. La primera modalidad es intermitente. Ésta la uso poco, pero advierte muy bien que estoy en el camino. La segunda modalidad es fija. Es la que más uso. Algunos me han dicho que cuando la uso pensaban que era una moto la que estaba pasando. La tercera modalidad yo la llamo "ambulancia". Sí, porque la luz se va alternando de un lado a otro. La he usado poco también. Y la última modalidad la llamo "fiesta", porque es un poco loca. Parece que la luz estuviera bailando dentro de esa cajuela. Cuando quiero ir frenéticamente y asustar a la gente uso ésta luz.

Por la forma en la que la sujeté, no quiero desamarrarla. Así que esa sí la tengo fija, no importa que esté de día por las calles. Obviamente no lleva los led prendidos. Están apagados. Pero creo que le queda como bonito adorno y aunque no es reflectante, el color rojo entre el color negro creo que le viene bien como advertencia al que viene detrás de mí.

CONCLUSIÓN.

De seguro concordarás de que la seguridad es importante, y contar con iluminación es parte de ese objetivo. Por supuesto, no son los más novedosos ni los ideales, pero creo que es algo básico que ayuda en algo.
